newbie :)
Hello to all!
I just joined, i own a 1986 2wd silverado. I am swapping out the stock 305 for a 454 and im also selling my longbox and going to be cutting down to a shortbox. i know a more than fair amount about sbc engines, but i know almost nothing about the big rats! so far i am planning on using my 700R4 as it was recently rebuilt. i was told the stock motor mounts will work. the 454 is from an 89 TBI, and i am planning on going carb. I would really like a vortec multiport intake like the 97 454's but i dont have the money right now. how much is involved and what should i look out for on both swaps? as far as the swb i have dual tanks and they are 16gal. will they work? it is in excellent shape, not a spec of rust and no dings or dents. it is faded, thats about it (white) sorry for all the questions, i should catch on quick and soon be a help to the next new feller thanks in advance. Joe

Re: newbie :)
may want to check forum guidlines as to WIW posts...
16 gallon tanks are what came on shortbeds, should fit most any of the 3rd gen frames. I'm not sure on the motor mounts. I thought they were different for big blocks. do a search, theres plenty on TBI to carb swaps. The boat anchor carburetor intakes can probably be found at a junkyard or swapmeet, but check on the heads for port shape. However, have fun with the computers. I think you can pretty much trash the electronics since you're going to carb, I don't think there is any electronics for anything but the injection? |

Re: newbie :)
If my research is correct from 73 on all Chevy V8's in trucks used the same motor mounts so you would only need to change them out if it was originally equipped with an L6.

Re: newbie :)
well, im picking up the engine tomorrow, i cant wait!
as for the box, im still having a difficult time deciding on two different swb's. Im even considering a step side, there REALLY starting to grow on me! to place an add such as WTB, or Forsale, i have to pay $25 and become a subscriber correct? ive never heard of that.... but ill bet it keeps alot of scammers from stopping by and posting crap all day long in the clfd's huh?

Re: newbie :)
just got home from picking up the 454. i was wrong, its not from an 89, its from a 95. anyone know the specs on a 1995 454 TBI engine? im going to go do a search right now.
i think i might leave it completely stock, the stock black grooved aluminum valve covers look decent. should i keep the engine black or make it look like an older 454 and go hugger orange? im leaning towards black. sorry about all the rambling, im just extremely excited about this!
