Rochester B - rebuild questions ?
I have a thread about this over in the engine shop:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=222218 I thought maybe you older truck guyy might have some ideas tho'... -W -- original post below -- according to the rebuild instructions, this part is called : plug - power valve http://chevy.tocmp.com/1929_57chevyparts/57cmpc0295.htm At the page above, on the diagram the part is referred to as: 3.858 valve unit. My Dad and I think that ball is not supposed to be stuck down in there like that. We've tried compressed air, PB blaster... no joy so far. And now we have a spring that took off flying from the rebuild kit, ha! old trucks are fun! Wish us luck trying to find that spring... haha... Thanks, -W |

Re: Rochester B - rebuild questions ?
I don't know about your particular carb, but I would think that ball should be free. Holley uses a rubber diaphram and I have done tons of them. My guess is that Rochester uses the ball along with a spring that senses vacuum to open it.

Re: Rochester B - rebuild questions ?
Dad managed to get the ball out of the part in question... he left it in the carburetor cleaner bucket for two days and it rolled right out. I guess it was gunked up good.
Simple solutions are good. However, as with all things old chevy truck, he has encountered another issue on this carburetor rebuild. http://chevy.tocmp.com/1929_57chevyparts/57cmpc0295.htm Using the above diagram... the following parts are missing, the hole was filled up with 'goop' as dad called it. I wasn't there when he discovered this. The parts missing: spring 3.823 screw 3.822 Those parts are not in the rebuild kit, as I imagine that they are supposed to be reused. Anyone have an idea of how to acquire these parts... I would imagine that they would have to be used? -W |

Re: Rochester B - rebuild questions ?
If I had an extra carb, I send you the parts. It's the idle mixture screw. Go over to the bolt, someone there, like hotrod lincoln, should be able to help.
