Tranny Swap, Fluid
I am gonna try and put the replacement 3 speed in my '64 Chevy C10 tonight. I have a tailshaft seal, and I am gonna try and get a new carrier bearing. What kind of tranny fluid does this thing need?
Anything else I should know? Tailshaft seal suggestions or anything? I am not really sure how it goes in, I was gonna try and figure it out tonight haha. I come form the Import scene so I don't have a good working knowledge of Domestics yet. Thanks. |

Re: Tranny Swap, Fluid
Tailshaft seal isn't easy. Haven't done one in ages, but I think you have to remove the main shaft out of the tranny to get to it. It's not that hard if you have a manual. Hopefully someone with more recent experience will speak up.
You will also need a redi-sleeve for the driveshaft pinion. It's a thin piece of tubing that goes over the worn shaft. Without it, you will have another leak. For gear lube use 80W-90. Same as the differential.
