Must. II Power steering problem?

I was wondering if any of you using the Mustang II with power steering had any problem with over steering(or maybe I should say to much power)? My brother decided to go with the manual steering for my mom's because he heard that they have this issue. I bought the rack and pinion PS for mine. I was wondering if those of you who had the PS had any tips or should I use a gear reduction of sorts? Thanks as always, Daniel U

Re: Must. II Power steering problem?

If you use a ford Pump with the ford rack you'll have no problems. If you use a late model GM you may have problems. If you use a late model that came off a Hydra boost you will have problems.

There is a fix. Heidt's has an adjustable pressure valve that fixes the high pressure that creates the sensitive steering at higher speeds. It will also help if you have your caster set at spec.

The GM pump puts out about 1200 PSI and the ford Rack operates on 800 PSI. So you get the Power Plus steering.

This article explains some of it. The valve is midway down

Re: Must. II Power steering problem?

The RB's valve probably a better fix for what you need. Its cleaner looking.

Re: Must. II Power steering problem?

Is there a ready made HIGH Pressure side Power steering hose made for using the SAGINAW style power steering pump with the MII Rack/PINION? Or do i have to fabricate one?

Re: Must. II Power steering problem?

Are you using the T-bird R&P or the Mustang?

Re: Must. II Power steering problem?

They are a little twitchey even with the RB valve, I changed my R&P to the t-Bird and I like it much better. It is 3 1/2 turns lock to lock and I think the mustang is only 2 7/8 lock to lock and you can not do much with that rack!

Re: Must. II Power steering problem?

Im bringing this topic back. I have the complete mustang ll front and now all I need is R&P. Are you guys saying if I want power that its a good choice with the Thunderbird R&P I should go with the matching year Tbird pump and not need any of these valves? Exactly what are the years I need to match for the two? My installer wants me to go with a manual steering but Im gonna drive this thing every day and I need to be comfortable.

Web site is gone. It was up after the move to Phoenix. Anybody seen them at NSRA or Goodguys events?
