Re: Gas Tank Conversion

Here's what I did... A little unconventional but it will work. Late 70's- early 80's full size Blazer tank (25 gal) from www.classicindustries.com It was around $100-120. $50 for the sending unit. I took the rear crossmember from an 80 Blazer frame and welded it in place of the rear original crossmember. This the oddball redneck approach...

Re: Gas Tank Conversion

Used a Jaz tank
Moved the rear cross member back 4.5 inches so the fuel filler door would be between the bed cross members.

Re: Gas Tank Conversion

but I can't seem to find the link.

Re: Gas Tank Conversion

gen2guy,
The link showed a tank for a 1949-52 Chevrolet Passenger Car Polyethylene Tank. I have a 1957 Chevy truck. they show a stainless steel one for my truck model but not a Polyethylene Tank.
Do you know where I could find a Polyethylene Tank?

Re: Gas Tank Conversion

Width is ok.
I moved the 1 rear frame brace between the spring perch 4.5" back so the filler would be betwen the box braces, also closer to the rear for filling. I then used the small brace for the spare tire for the forward mounting point. I used a billet gas door for a late model pickup as the access thru the floor. Only other thing I would do is to find a 3" extension for the filler on the tank to get it closer to the bed. The one on the tank is ok as is though. The tank could be spaced up a bit higher as well.

Bob there are some picks above but for some reason I never took a pic of the tank sitting in the bracket. I'll be pulling the bed off next week for the 4-link and I will update my pics then.

Re: Gas Tank Conversion

texascowboy593 has a good idea there! 25 gal and not a lot of bucks. You only put fuel in it anyway. I like the extra weight of the extra gas when it's full. I'm not looking for a SHOW tank ! It's under the truck out of sight. I'm not going to ask people to look at my gas tank! The Polyethylene Tank could bust easer than a metal one, so I've read. The others cost toooo much for me. My other trucks have a tank like that. It'll be there for many years.

Hay! texascowboy593 my son is in the PBR, Making good riding bulls.
