Rocker/Torsion Box Replacement

Hey all,

I've done some looking thru the search feature here, and seem to recall having seen someone showing the how-tos of replacing rocker boxes. Is there any information available here?

Probably the most important point here is to make sure you maintain the deminsional relationships of the firewall--windshield frame to the rear quarters. Two ways to do this--1- is to keep the top on and bolted in place but make sure the door alignment is correct before removing them as the top does have some play front to rear if the torque boxes are crap.
Other method is to build some braces between the door pillars---A===B. I prefer the top method as it is more exact. If you weld in stuff without ensuring this alignment, you will never get it right~~~ask me how I know!!

Keep the top on like Huck said. I have one blazer and it's rockerboxes are gone. With the top on the doors and reveals are great. Take the top off and they fade. Also I will soon be at the point of putting one sides rockerbox on. I am not local but I am only in Northern Va. Good Luck

I'm just down the road from you, in Calvert County.

The floorpans are hash, rocker boxes are pretty bad, but the bed and windshield frame look OK. Quarter panels, kick panels, A post, B post etc will need replacement as well. From the amount of cancer on the floorpans, I am thinking about doing the complete floor replacement, but not sure of the differences between the Blazer floor and pickup floor, and whether I have a high hump or low hump vehicle. It's 4X4.

Maybe it's best to hop a plane and get another vehicle out west. But then what do I do with what I already have.

Being a 4x4 it is most likely a High hump, but GM did alot of crazy stuff,
IIRC All High humps are bolt in, and All Low humps are made to the floor.

I was out in Arizona last August on a job interview in Gilbert. Saw a bunch of old Chevy trucks. They sure age well out there.

I spent the evening watching Earl Bergeron's CD's as incentive to get going once the warmer weather gets here, I get the mother in law's stuff out of the garage and can get the Blazer in.

That guy has some talent. Wish he'd do a set on Blazers.
