Headers that fit?

just installed a 388 stroker motor in my ol beater 63 and im havin problems findin some headers that fit everthing i have tryed the 4speed tranny x-member is in the way anyone know of a set that will work?

If you're having trans x-member interference, it sounds like you may have had a set of car headers. If you get a set for a newer pickup (I prefer the '73 and up ones) they should fit with the exception of your clutch linkage. The clutch linkage will have to be modified to work with the newer truck headers.
I believe Hedman makes a set for the '63-'66 trucks, but they aren't equal length tubes.

I would suggest as Woogeroo did, and check out Summit's website. There's usually pictures for each header part number, so you can see how they are configured. When I have a little more time later, I'll see if I can find ones that I think will work.

ya the first set i tryed were for a car then the second set was for a 2wd chevy truck but i noticed that the clutch linkage was a problem so i was wondering if they had a set that wouldnt make me rig up some new linkage

Here is a set I purchased from a supplier on eBay. They are ceramic coated and made to fit the '64-'66 Chevy trucks. The only thing I had to do was modify the Z-bar for the shift linkage. I have a factory 327 and SM420 granny-low 4-speed on the floor. I paid about $175.00. I see them on eBay from time-to-time and I can not remember the vendor.

OK here's what I found on Summit's website. The first group are a direct fit for the '63-'66 trucks with a small block....no messin with the clutch bellcrank.
These are all Hedman Hedders....
69260 1 1/2" primaries, 3" collector, painted $145.95
69268 1 1/2" primaries, 3" collector, ceramic coated $354.39
69266 pretty much the same, ceramic coated also $410.39

Now these below are for a '77 2wd with a small block. A better performance header IMO, but you will have to modify the clutch bellcrank if you have a manual trans. Not a huge deal IMO, but you will need to cut and weld.

69080 1 3/4" primaries, 3" collector,painted $237.69
69090 1 5/8" primaries, 3" collector, painted $145.95
69092 1 5/8" primaries, 3" collector, round port $159.95
69099 1 5/8" primaries, 3" collector. D port $175.95

ok great thanks for the info now if i were to choose the clutch modify route what would i be doing? do you have any pics? im a great cutter not so well a welder lol but im always up for new things if it's not to hard i may go this route cause it wouldnt be to hard to find a set of 2wd headers. my rig is really a no budget deal so wheeling and dealin if my only way of biulding her

It's been a long time since I've done one but IIRC you'll need to reposition the arm on the bellcrank that the rod from the pedal connects to, and also you'll have to make another rod to connect the pedal to the bellcrank arm. I'll try and remember to look when I'm at the shop tomorrow, and give you some more detail on how I did it. Of course thats not to say that someone else may not have done theirs differently.
