Need shifter info
I bought a 69 c10 that the prior owner installed a Hurst Mastershift conversion in. It converts the three-on-the-tree to floor shift.
I need to see if anyone has the installation instructions for this kit because this thing seems to be really screwed up. I am having dificulties finding any gear. (and yes I know how to drive stick) I also thought it was odd to have this shift pattern: R 2 1 3 I guess this is the only way to set it up??? Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: Need shifter info
That's the normal shift pattern for a 3-speed.

Re: Need shifter info
I've only driven a few vehicles with that shifter, but they all shifted like crap.

I've never seen a 3 speed with that shift pattern in my life.

Re: Need shifter info
Did you adjust the shifter? There should be a small (about 3/16) hole in the side if the shifter that also goes through the 2 levers on the shifter. Disconnect both rods from the levers on the shifter, make sure the tranny is in neutral and put a rod or driil bit through the hole and levers on the shifter. Now aduust each rod so it slips easily into its lever on the shifter. Hope this helps the problem.

Re: Need shifter info
chevroletman, the reason it shifts that pattern is due to the shift arms on the tranny being turned 180*.I had a buddy in HS who did his that way so his GF could have leg room when she sat next to him.It was in a 60 Furd with a 390.Right after he installed the shifter the rearend went out.The local Furd dealer(small town of 1200) replaced it with a rear from an auto.Sure crused the hiways easy but was he&& on clutches.

Re: Need shifter info
I had a Hurst Indy Shifter in my truck when it was a 6 w/3 speed. Shifted great. One thing that happened on mine that made it loose was the bolts holding the shifter onto the linkage came loose (I didn't use lock tight first time).
3 speed pattern R 2 1 3 If the shifter rods are hooked up wrong you will get the second displayed pattern, but I won't tell you why I know this 1 3 R 2 I am not sure what the difference is between the Indy and Mastershift models, but I do know someone who used a Mr Gasket version of the shifter, and it was pretty sloppy, but may just have need the rods adjusted too.
