Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

I love Pull-A-Part. I have been going to the metro Atlanta locations for years. They always tend to have a couple of 67-72 trucks. You always tend to find some part that you can use. I have found good interior and exterior parts for dirt cheap. But remember, most vehicles get crushed within 90 days so you have to act fast. Also, as mentioned, there seems to be some "insiders" that sometime get first crack at the vehicles. I have seen trucks come in complete and by time they put it out in the yard, alot of good parts are already gone. Most times, you have to luck up and be there the day they put the vehicle out to get the best stuff. I have noticed how they are expanding operations in the South East. If they operate all of them like they do in Atlanta, you won't be dissappointed.

Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

There a Pick-A-Parts and Pull-A-Parts up here in WA. I live within 20 mi of both it's kinda nice to be able to shop around and get the best price for the same used parts.

Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

pick a part and pick your part are like the dollar stores of autoparts. I have found some great things at my pick a part but sometimes i have left with nothing but a dollar short. They sometimes have deals like 25$ all you can carry. picked up a 350 trans for my 66 chevy that way. also called pick n pull down here

Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

I pretty much spent all day at one yesterday helping a friend with parts for his truck...I found a tailgate off of a 66' stepside in a lot better shape than mine and only paid $29.99 for it!

Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

If you are near Little Rock, there is a U-Pull-It auto parts. They advertise cheap prices, too. I haven't been there, but they do a lot of business....even have a used car lot, according to a sign I saw about 10 miles from their yard. No vehicles on the lot makes me think they don't sell vehicles, right?

Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

There is a pull-a-part in oklahoma city, it doesn't show to be part of the chain, but myself knowing the owner he probably has his hands in with the owners of the chain. The guy is the nicest guy in the world and looking at him you wouldnt think he had a dime.

price of admission is a buck and the prices to almost everything is listed as you walk in. No torches or battery/gas powered chop saws allowed. the 16 and over only rule also applies here. prices are really reasonable, except for the unlisted parts that classify as "misc" then if you say what it is off of you could get raped on the price. That is why anything I get that isn't listed came off of a 86 caprice, or a monte carlo depending which they have more of.

Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

I think the core charges are because the scrape metal prices are so high.

Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

pick-n-pulls around here are a rip off, they charge a core charge on EVERYTHING and a hazerdous waste fee too. if you buy a door it had better be gutted otherwise you pay for anything attatched to it--mirror, handles, window, vent wing, regulators, etc. i bought a brake booster /master cylinder assembly at the merced, ca. p-n-p and was charged for every bracket, linkage piece, line, etc. it was crazy.

Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

Yah I like the one in okc. And yes the owner is a nice guy. He usually rings me up because I fill the waiting room. One time I was there I made out with likea grand worth of stuff for 125 bucks. And it include a 68 hood, 70 hood a/c out of a 68, side trim, seat tracks, lots of misc interior stuff. Oh and the trick to going to these is buy one of those large metal wagons they sell at lowes or home depot, 2 if you can afford it. They hold about 1,000 lbs and have nice tires that make it easier on you.

Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

we got about all of the major ones over in the salt lake city area..ive been to a few of them,,but i hate to do somthign 2 times, and most of the time i can go over to a junkyard i know, and give them just a few dollars more, and they pull it and put it in the bed of the truck..but one yard here used to do on the day after thanksgiving a 25.00 all you can carry..man i cleaned up on parts for my old burban..they paint a line across the gate,,and you can drag everythign up to it,,but it cannot touched the line, you hace to carry it over teh line,,i watched this little bitty dude, pick a up a complete 302 and move it across the line...his friends carried out stuff to..hmmmmmm,,is it thanksgiving yet,,lol

MOST ARE A RIPPOFF.ONE TRIED TO CHARGE ME $1.00 FOR A USED WORN OUT FAN BELT THAT I WAS GOING TO USE FOR REFERENCE (FOR LENGTH)FOR SOME ODDBALL SETUP WE WERE DOING. I GET BETTER SERVICE AND LESS WASTED TIME FROM A PROFESSIONAL RECYCLER THAN THESE CLOWNS. I HAVE BEEN TO THEM IN NJ,PA,LA TX,GA AL AND OTHER STATES. tHERE ARE ALOT OF GOOD PLACES TO GO FOR PARTS AND PICKU PART PLACES IMO AREN'T ONE OF THEM.

Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

PULL-A-PART ROCKS! i live 10 minutes from one. the cars that they buy are usually from the tow yard auctions. in past years when i was buying at the auctions JOY(she run the yard) was right there buying along with the salvage yards. hard to beat a t-5 trans for less than $ 75 buck and if its bad they will refund your money. they sell at slightly above core buyers price.

Re: Pull-A-Part, Junk Yard?

yeah i dont go to much,,i hate to pay a cover charge just to see what they got,,,and dont leave the wiring on anything,,they charge for that to..i bought a fuel pump for my youngest ones old probe, and i had to stripe it down to just the pump or get charged extra fo the rest of it..personally it worth it to me to just go to other yards i know and trust, and pay them to pull it,,i hate to do something more than once, and going to a yard, and laying on big crushed rocks to pull somthing,,just isnt worth it,,plus you got to take it back if its bad..at least the few yards i deal with know me,,and i know im gettign a good part to start with..
