Replacing core support and inner fenders
I need to replace my rusty inner fenders and I want to install a dual headlight core support on my 86 GMC while I am replacing the inners fenders. I will most likely have to do this solo, so I was wondering if this can be done with the outer fenders and hood still installed on the truck.
Anyone replaced inner fenders or a core support with the clip installed on the truck? |

Re: Replacing core support and inner fenders
take to hood off but the fenders will be fine. (removing hood is a safty thing really i mean it a chunk of steel ove rur head) If done this before and it not hard, i to did it solo. but to do the dual head light set up you will need the wiring harness as well as anythink that is dual head light set up.
And just for reference here a picture od mine and hees my custom grille i made for it but never istalled all the way

I replaced inner fenders on my '75 without removing hood or any other main body parts. 86 may be different. Just be aware that you may need replacement body bolts and U-nuts that clip to the fender inner lip. Make sure that contact area between inner fender and other parts is clean. Use body filler RTV to make sure that moisture does not get into nook and crannies. //RF

Re: Replacing core support and inner fenders
Dave, it can be done. Use a board or something to hold the hood up. The core support will slide up into place. You might have to move a little wiring around, but it's nothing major.
