electric fan on a budget

I'd love to go junkyard hunting for an electric fan for my radiator but I just don't have the time, or even transportation since my truck is down right now which means I need to order something.

Here's an idea I had. The stock shroud is pretty sturdy. I figured I could cut off the round area that sticks out for the stock fan. Once that is off, and I can take a large piece of thin aluminum sheet and rivet it to the shroud for a mostly flat surface. I can then cut a hole in the center and mount a single 16 inch fan.

Will the single 16" electric be adequate in this situation ?

Also, can anyone recommend reliable fan controllers ?
