Cab removal help
I am working on removing the cab i have the rest of the truck stripped down to the frame. I get the front two cab mounting bolts out but the rear ones just spin are there nuts on them or something? and where is the best place to lift this off? i was thinkin of laying boards underneth to span the two braces and lift up on each side with forklift and a tractor then roll the frame out from under it? my truck is a 1987 lwb reg. cab. thanks for the help

heres an did motor lift and some strapd cloth so not to hurt the cab and life also put some chain to the bolt hose for the seat for extra protection.
or you could build a jig for the cab. me i had a junk cab so i lifted it by hand and roled it off the frame. they really are light after the doors and glass and everything is gone. i could push it around the yard by my self and flip it of by my self. the bed it what gets heavy. just some insight

they should unless the nut inside broke its welds to the cab floor. Now if that happen this is what i did. i noticed it did not cause damage to that cab when i did it.
First off i had the bed off make life easy getting to those rear bolts. I took a torch and melted the ruber that was left on the cab to give me more room. I then got my jack and jacked the cab up off the frame doing this caused a space inbetween the cab and the frame. I cut the bolt off using a saws all this would free the cab from the frame as to getting the bolt out i really didnt try cause it was a junk cab. But i guess if you wanted the bolt out you could cut the cabs frame mount out so you could remove the nut that broke it weld then put a new nut in it place then weld the peice of floor back in with a mig welder. Unless some one else has an idea that the only thing i could come up with if i had a setlin torch i guess you could melt the end of the bolt off. Also picture a good too but here what i had when i was done. cab on cab off remember junk cab a frame shot of the back mounts for refrence. thruck was a granny 4 speed 4 wheel drive with a 327 ho engine. and another refrence shot. remember cabs are light when empty bed are heavy all the time almost broke my back take this truck apart all alone.

you can cut 2 access holes in the back ledge of the cab as long as the seat is out. Then you can either weld the nut back in place and remove the bolts or cut the head off the bolts and pull them thru. If re-using the cab just weld the holes back shut or but a couple body plugs and plug the holes. 1.5 Bimetal hole saw works good.

ditto, remove the bed and cut an access hole and weld the nut back.

You need to cut the holes on the inside.Behind the seat area [where people put speaker boxes].That way you an come at it from the top.
You could go at it by cutting a whole on the outside but by going from the inside carpet covers up your patch. no real need to make it look all pretty,unless ya want to. |

I did mine from the outside ledge, you won't see it with the bed on and you are looking right at the channel where the nut is.
Of course on my Jimmy, I had to cut the floor.

Don't forget the speedo and e-brake cables -- I frequently seem to find the need to test their tensile strength when I yard cabs off with the bobcat, lol
