What would cause a power steering belt to go inside out?

i have been helping a friend work on his 1978 k20. It has a 350 and everyonce and once and a while his power steering belt will be in the same spot but it will be completely flipped. It is one of the wierdest things i have ever seen. Everything seems to be lined up. But it just disides to this everyonce and a while. anyone know what the heck is going on?

I knew a guy with a caprice that did the same thing even with a new belt. Try a new belt, or adjust the tension. If that doesn't work, then you are were we ended up.

Sounds like either the pulleys are warped and/or aren't alligned correctly.

If the power steering pump pulley is not lined up right, it's rollover time. I know because when I first installed my headers and removed the AC, mine did the same thing. I had to use a spacer behind the bracket to make everything line up right. Lay a straight edge across the pulleys and check it. I bet the pump bracket is out of wack.
