My rear end looks funny. It's big ! Help me ID this thing !

Fellas, I bought a 72 model 3/4 ton big block truck today. It has rear leaf springs.

The rearend has a removable rear cover plate. It's not like an Eaton rearend like I've had before with the drop out center section.

What do I have ?

I think 72 was the begining of the corporate 14 bolt. Count the bolts on it.

Dana 60?
take a look at the web on the lower left side, if '60' is cast into the web, it's a Dana 60. Can you post a picture?

Yeah if it was a GMC I guess that's an option, good point.

They didn't have Corp.14 bolts in any year of 67-72s..It may be a DANA 60,some had them.BTW,the Eatons had a removable cover.

My HO52 and HO72 rearends ( in my junkpile) have no removable rear cover. The entire center section pulls out from the front side. The rear of the housing is smooth and bolt free.

I thought the Eatons didn't have the removable cover but instead the front of the pumpkin came out? I very well could be wrong though. Im just now learning about these old trucks

You're probably right, you know a little more about these trucks than I do.

You could always have something swapped in, more than likely if it's not the Dana 60 then it is a corp 14 bolt.

Uncle, looks like neither of those. My rear cover is irregular shaped, not round or even near round.

I won't belabor this too much, I'll post pics galore tomorrow when it gets daylight again.

Notice the 10 bolts holding the cover on the back of the eaton/corp rear?
That's why lotsa ppl call them 10 bolt rears.
