New radiator for a '64 ?
Hey guys, after having a leak pop up on my radiator and almost strand me Friday, who has a good NEW radiator for a V8 in a '64? The PO of my truck used JB weld to fix a gaping crack in the header tank, then painted over it to look like it had been soldered !
I silver soldered it up yesterday, but this is an old radiator and it has been fixed in a few places, but does not overheat ...yet ! I saw that LMC had a cross-flow for our trucks. Has anybody used the LMC radiator ?? Let me know who you used ! Thanks !! Rick

Re: New radiator for a '64 ?
I picked up a brand new Modine for my 64 V8, from a local radiator shop here in Marietta, GA. I think it was about $240. It works wonderful, and works with automatic transmission. I got one from the same source for ny brother-in-law's 65.

The Modine is a drop-in fit for a 64 if you have V8 radiator mounts, by the way.

Re: New radiator for a '64 ?
It looks like the PO put a '55 Chevy radiator in there ! It has flanges on both sides and is bolted to the core support with 4 bolts and spacers. . Some people should be shot for their rigging !!!
I just found an aluminum direct fit 63-66 radiator ( down flow) on E-Bay for $204 plus $24 shipping . Looks good too and states 100% tig welded with no epoxy seams . I might just try this one out . Now to call Classic or H&H to get some stock radiator mounts coming ! Thanks ! Rick

Re: New radiator for a '64 ?
I installed an AFCO radiator manufactured for a 1966 Chevelle (I made some adjustments). The truck runs at 180 with no fan shroud. It runs up to about 205 if you sit for a long time.

Re: New radiator for a '64 ?
This is the one that I found:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA:IT&ih=015 I am Paypal-ing him tomorrow so I can have it by the weekend. I soldered mine up, but don't trust it cause I drive 120miles round trip every Friday in addition to the in-town driving to and from work .I am also going to put airconditioning in it over the winter too. I have a nice SS Camaro and a BMW that I can daily drive, but I get more waves and thumbs up in my old truck ! Rick

Re: New radiator for a '64 ?
Nice looking rads in those links, seems like decent deals if they turn out well built.
But I wish the manufacturers would learn to put the drain in the middle instead of on the end. Mine is on the ned like those in the pics, and maybe that is even the "correct" OEM placement, but that puts it right above the frame rail so it is (1) hard to turn cuz you can't really get your hand aroun dit and (2) it makes a mess cuz it dumps on the frame. A hose on the end of the petcock would help with (2), but on mine (which came with a petcock) the petcock is not a configuration that will accept a hose. |
