I've a couple of places on my truck where there is the leftover sticky from masking tape that was left on tooo long (I know, my fault). I'm not great at this detailing stuff, but I would like to get this sticky stuff off the truck. I even tried a little lacker thinner and didn't do much good. The paints far from perfect and I've driven "pinky" almost 5,000 mi since I pulled out of the driveway to head to the MO meet at BOSSES. Thanks! Any help will be appreciated.

Isopropyl Alcohol from the medicine cab. will work. If you don't feel comfortable with that, I think a rubbing compound will do the same thing.

"Goof-off" "Goo-gone" whichever one you can get locally. You should be able to find them at a home improvement store, hardware store, or maybe even the corner grocery store. Either will remove tape residue w/o hurting what's underneath.

I agree, I use this stuff all the time in cinstruction work and I used on my truck when I removed the stick on pinstripes.

I agree with CDowns. Ronsonol lighter fluid. Been using it for years on glue residue. Let it soak in a little first.

IMO -- a good approach to cleaning anything is to work from mild to wild. Paint thinner (mineral spirits), lighter fluid, tranny fluid, rubbing alcohol or even butter should work given a bit of patience. Goof-off and similar products have such an aggressive mix of solvents that you stand a much greater chance of damage. I would think the goal is to break the bond between the old adhesive and the paint..not to actually melt the stuff.
...just my thoughts on the matter...

First I tried lacquer thinner then the alcohol. I think the problem was with my patience! In this day of "lightening fast" computers, I've come to expect everything to be fast. Of course, my ADHD issue does NOT help! Bought the "goof-off", but before I got a chance to use it, I had the new cowl hood painted and the guy ended up detailing the truck! Stuff is all gone! Thanks guys for the suggestions.

3m adhesive remover works great. You can get it at walmart and its safe on paint.
