Power steering pulley too far out? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just bought a double pulley so I could run my power steering pump. It still does not stick out as far as my pump pulley. The pump pulley is at least another inch out from the double pulley. What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something to align them?

Sounds to me like you have a long water pump and the brackets holding your steering pump are for the short bracket set up.

Do you just have a two groove pulley on your crank or did you add a two groove to your existing crank pulley (making a total of 4 grooves)? Also, there are three different offsets for the pump pulley. Someone posted a pic a while back showing the three different offsets. I know it's frustrating as hell trying to locate parts and line everything up. I just went through this myself, and every corner I turned seemed to be a new surprise. Let me know what you got going and I got some pics from my 69' that might help you map it out. Wifey got a digi cam for christmas so pics are a breeze now!! Anyway, let me know.

I had a single groove pulley and replaced it with a double groove. I will post a picture in just a few minutes. You will see how far off the ps pump pulley is. I do actually have a short water pump.

The black pulley in the middle is the new double, Hope these help.

I ran into the same problem I'll try to find the link to the post I did on this earlier but in the meantime here are some pics of what mine looks like now. I got the pulley from Desert Rat and he said he has more so you should email him.

You can see the double groove pulley mounted to the crank w/ an additional double groove pulley mounted on top of that. The add on fits inside your existing pulley and the two pulleys bolt up together with longer bolts.

Good thing I took that pic I was looking at it and noticed that my alternator belt was in the wrong groove on the crank. It should be on the one closest to the block and it's one away from the block. Whoops!! Anyway, PICKMUP also said he had one so you could try him too. Good luck.
