The lowering thing has my head hurting....can I

just buy lowering spring to lower my truck, or do I HAVE to have drop spindles (whatever those are) and something else? I'm looking for the most economical way to get a 3-4 inch drop. I dont want anything more than 4. I do NOT want to heat my springs up. I'm also not too particular about cutting them, but would consider it. I do NOT want my truck bouncing all over the place. I'm running 18 x 9 Foose Nitrous with 255/55's up front and 285/50's out back.

Am I asking too much?

drop springs will be the cheepest just align it after and you will only get 2" out of it you will need spindles to get 3-4" but if you want the back down 3-4" you need a steep noch for suspention travel or your axel will bounce off the frame when you hit a bump. latter bro. love that truck send me more pics.

you can buy 3" front springs and any spring up 6" for the rear from CPP. I ran the 3" front spring with 2.5" spindles for a total of 5.5" drop in the front with no problems. My concern for you would be the size of your front tire and rim. Also, you would need to get shorter shocks.

I put CPP 3" front/4" rear springs with "drop shocks" on my 64. It rode well and there was no c-notch in the rear. I never had any issues with it.

or you could convert your rear end to leaf springs and get up to a 5in drop on the reas, as for the front i think u can get a 3 maybe a 4 not to sure, but a 3 inch drop my headers scraped goin into drive wasy and over speed bumps at my school ( it wasnt pretty)

You can run a 3" front spring ( I did 2 1/2" spindles and 1" spring) and in the rear I went 5" springs and still have 5" of space between frame and axle and no C notch. havent had a problem with anything hitting

Springs for sure, cheapest and easy (my opinion). Could do the whole truck in a few hrs with the right tools. If you are like me and don't have all the right tools tack on a few more hrs. If you have never done it take a weekend so you can cuss here and there. Good luck

Whats up Logan. I've been over to Bass Pro Shops a few times on Saturday evening with the truck. Once the weather gets nicer I'm sure I'll be back over there. The link above has a few more pics of my truck.

So let me make sure I understand....if I order that particular kit I will get about a 2.5 inch drop? (EDIT - I see now that I need to specify the drop I want which is ~3) I dont have to do anything with the shocks or notches or anything, just plug and play? PLEASE tell me thats all thats to it...

Yes that is it. Buy the drop springs you want, put them in and then get the truck aligned.

See, this is exactly what I'm talking about! Man I have a masters degree and I'm confused about lowering my truck! TOO MANY OPTION!! (rant over)

SO, if I just get the coil springs I'll need shorter shocks. But if I want to stick with stock springs I need to use drop spindles? This is a bunch of commotion for a 3" drop!

3 inch drop = shorter shocks
5 inch out back = shorter shocks + adjustable panhard bar

I put 2.5" drop spindles and 2" drop coils and keeped my stock shocks no problems thus far. BIG CTY how wide is that back tire i see your size but does it rub the fold in the rear fender any? Pics can be deceiving sometimes but it looks like the rear tire sticks a little past the fender if so you may need to make some adjustments there.

By the stance of it now you may just put 2 or 2.5 " drop springs on the front to bring the front down some and keep the back the way it is. With those size tires it would look pretty good.

make sure that if you do drop it your tires dont rub the back fenders they look close, then you will have to roll the fender lip. I love that color what is that? thats what mine is going to be.

If you have the springs already then use those, and will need a shorter shock. Drop spindles are a good place to start if you have the cash, since they don't monkey with the suspension geometry. All you are doing with a drop spindle is moving the spindle mounting point up on the knuckle, effectively lowering the truck. But.....all the drop spindles I have seen for these trucks require a disc brake conversion at the same time, which usually requires a new master cylinder too.

I had a friend that had a 90's chevy and took his bumper off (help on weight) to install a roll pan. Didn't like how much it brought the truck up in the rear so for quite a while he rode around with 80lb bags of sack crete.

The drop spindles leave the suspension and steering in the stock position. The spindle is moved 2.5" higher on the shaft, which lowers the vehicle. If a 2.5" drop is what you want, this is the way to go, imo. Keeps the ride and steering the same.

For a 3.5" drop I would go with 1" springs and spindles, but it is not the cheapest by any means. For a 3" drop, I would follow the advice already given using springs & shocks.

Thanks for the help and compliments guys. The rear tire is a 285/50, BIG tire. Looks exactly like I hoped. There is a 2" spacer on the back wheels so I have som wiggle room there. The wheels are VERY close but do not rub now. I'll change it out to a 1.5 probably. I think the yellow is the one on the Corvette, the PO never gave me the paint code. I guess I need to try and call him back AGAIN. I think I'm going to go with the springs at 2.5 or 3.

Hey, 62 chevy step, I was thinking of doing the same 3 1/2 front and 5 rear drop-did you have to c notch the frame or change the shock mounts? how does this set up work do you have pics? thanks

Brawley,

I used 2 1/2" drop spindles along with 1" drop springs in the front. ( I have a 86' C10 front crossmember and components) did away with the torsion bar front end. had to go to shorter shocks, and did weld on new shock mounts on the frame.

In the rear I just installed 5" drop springs. I have right at 5" of space between the rear axle and the bottom of the frame, and I have no C-notch installed. When I had my stepside bed on I have hauled a 350 SBC and 700r4 in the back and had no problem with the suspension bottoming out. I didn't have to change out the rear shock mounts, originally purchased a bit "too much shock" have refitted with a softer shock from my NAPA store and rides great. I did have a custom (ECE custom fabbed it to my spec's) panhard bar.

I will see if I can get out to the shop and shoot some pictures this evening for you and post them.
