Other GM tach options
I haven’t really made up my mind on what I want to do with my dash. Ultimately a full Auto-Meter setup behind the factory bezel is my goal, but I need to spend that money elsewhere at the moment. Beings that I love to rummage through junkyards, I thought I might find something else that would look stock and fit in the bezel. (The original truck tach is too expensive and too hard to find!) I have heard of people using a tach from a 70s model Camaro or Monte Carlo. I also found this 69/72 Grand Prix/GTO tach online for about $50 that looks similar. Anybody used anything else and made it fit behind our factory bezels? By the way, I LOVE "do it yourself" projects

Re: Other GM tach options
Gringoloco posted a GREAT write-up on installing a mid-to-late 70's Camaro tach. Check it out;
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=250683 It's not exactly a very viable option, but GM did make a dealer installed tach intended for dash mount. I found one about 20 years ago on the hood of a 73-up Suburban. It was a little oxidized and since I never found a use for it, I put it on eBay and it brought crazy $. Finding one of those in a wrecking yard these days would be like winning the lottery. Much better to go with the Camaro tach option IMO...

Re: Other GM tach options
Yeah, Gringoloco's writeup is what got me thinking about this. I was wondering if anyone had tried any other GM tach in the same way. The pic of the GTO tach that I posted earlier looks like it even has the same needle as our original dash has. Anyway, that hood mounted tach that you mentioned is news to me. I will have to keep my eyes open next time I'm digging around in the salvage yard. Thanks!
