My 1972 Super Cheyenne is having trouble starting and staying running. The best I can get it to do is to crank just fine only to sputter out after 15 seconds or so. The only way I can do this is AFTER pouring gasoline into the carb and into the "bowl reservoir"... because someone told me that it could be empty.
I've checked the fuel line and it is pumping fuel just fine.
I've checked the spark plugs and they are getting spark.
The only thing left is to see if the fuel filter is clogged or bad, which I haven't done yet. I think it's been a year or so since I last checked it. Could it be this or is the remanufactured QuadraJet finally gone bad?

i always just look down the carb and hit the gas, watch for the squirt of gas shooting into the carb. if its not there you know the bowl is dry.

i have seen this many many times. its always the filter. take that pile of crap thing out of the front of the carb and put a good clear inlike typ. just put it back together with out that little filter. dam thing always causes trouble

That's the first thing I was going to do when I got home, pull that little cylindrical filter out of the front of the carb. Thanks for the advice... I just needed to hear it from someone else.

Check the filter first, but if that still doesn't hlep then when i get home i'll post a pic on how to check the float level. there is a sheet that comes with every carb kit that shows you how to do it. you have to remove the top plate to get to the bowl. it might be worth it to check and see how much crap is there when you change/replace/throw away your filter. i'll check on you after i get home from work.

Oh that's right I do recall seeing a metal plate located at the front top of the carb held in place by a phillips screw. I'll wait to see your pic when i get home as well though. Thanks.

I was having similar problems, rebuilt the carb, changed filter and still had problems. I then replaced the accelorator pump and jet and it works like a champ...this is on an Edelbrock, I'm not familiar with Qjets, but if everything else looks ok, you may want to try this.
