Dash Color 66 C10
I have been trying everywhere to match the paint on my 66 C10 dash. It has never been repainted and has been in our family since new. The paint charts all show a fawn...but a restoration pack from GM stated in 66 they used a dark fawn. I found a color code from 66 cars that states dark fawn, but no dealer has been able to match it yet. Have any of you experienced this and found a match?
By the way, I have used the Autocolorlibrary....they do not show it, although after several conversations, they at least admit there was a darker fawn. I'm hoping they will send me a color sample. |

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
Take the glovebox door to an O'Reilly Auto Parts. The stores that mix paint have a spectrometer that can match your color EXACT to the sample you bring in. Make sure you clean the part thoroughly so as to get an exact match. They mix DuPont paints, and they are who match my colors on my restos. Jerry

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
Not all of them do. Any automotive paint store should be able to match. Another option is to buy from Jim Carter www.oldchevytrucks.com . He sells the right color by the quart, metallic beige.

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
Jim Carter would be alright if metallic beige was the color. Sadly, it is not the color for the dash...just the cab ceiling and steering column.
A few local PPG stores have tried to match it and are nowhere close (admittedly so). Even though neither had or was willing to get a scanner out. There is one DuPont store and I have been there twice to talk with 19 year old kids who told me the tech would be back the next day. Jerry, I struck out at the 3 local O'Reillys...they said none of their stores in this district has a colormatch system. Not even a brand new store in Henderson, KY. I have some relatives in Lexington....may have to go visit them and find your O'Reillys! |

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
The interior color of metalic fawn is available, but the dash color for 1966 is not. Chevrolet decided on painting the dash a flat brownish color in 1966 to reduce the glare from the sun.

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
Thanks for at least acknowledging the color Factorystock, most have told me it didn't exist. One of them told me that while I had the ash tray in my hand showing him.
I did find a nice Bel Air (65) that has the color on top and bottom of the dash, but the owner was not sure of the color name or number. |

My old store in Springfield Ky has the spectrometer, that is who mixes mine. I don't know if the Lexington stores do or not. You could probably go to O'Reilly's website and find which stores mix paint. Jerry

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
Thanks guys,
Merlin, My truck has the champaign metallic paint on the cab ceiling and steering wheel/ column. It is the flat brown metallic that is shown on the Bel Air upper part of the dash that I am looking for. That is the original color of a 66 dash. Last edited by ol Curt; 01-21-2008 at 12:24 PM. |

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
Fred,
It was originally my grandpas...passed to Dad, then me. No repaint of dash. Glove box door still has original sticker on it.I ordered a packet of information from GM several years ago, and it states they used a non-gloss dark fawn on the dash in 66. I have found that color listed, but it was in laquer. I haven't found anyone who can mix paint to match. they all want me to pay for a 1/2 pint....been thru two of those at about $28 each! P.S., you would have to know my grandpa and dad....neither of them would go to such an extravagant thing as repainting a dash! Last edited by ol Curt; 01-22-2008 at 12:04 AM. |

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
I reread your first post, you had gone to autocolor library. Too bad they don't have chips to go along with the numbers.

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
I found the code for the dark fawn poly at www.classictruckshop.com
It is listed for a 68, and I do remember dad's 68 having that color. Copy is poor, but number is 22862

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
My 63 has the same color. I was looking to re-paint the door sills and found a near perfect match (rattle can), when I get home I'll go out in the shop and get you the info.
Pete

Pete, you mean it is that darker brown metallic? If so, I would be very interested in your match.
Thanks |

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
ol Curt. Sorry for the delay, been down with a toothache. Nothing a root canal and $425.00 couldn't fix. Stumbled out to the shop in a Vicodin haze and found the can. It is Dupli-Color T367 Light Almond Pearl. To me it looks the same as my interior, which resembles the photo's shown here. I hope this works for you!

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
OK, so I went outside to crank Ginger up and snapped this shot. Please excuse the dirt. The sill looks lighter in the photo but when I'm looking at it the sill matches the floor under the seat. I'm thinking ol Curt may want a better match with his family heirloom. I try and keep it stock, as I have all the dealer paperwork and such, but to the naked eye, I cannot see the difference.

Re: Dash Color 66 C10
It looks like the Dupont interior color for the 1966 dash board is Dark fawn flat 9288 LH . Now if a paint store can use that formula to make the color, you are set.If not, you would have to find someone to do a color match.

I did find a very close match the other day in a SEM brand. Picked the color from a chip and they mixed and put in an aerosol can. It is a Dk. Bronze metallic used in corvettes. It is a pretty nice match. Last edited by ol Curt; 01-28-2008 at 10:17 AM. |
