Another Z'd frame question

Hi everyone,
I got my new truck (1965 LB) tore down and am in the planning stages of doing a 4" Z. How and where do you measure from to figure where your cuts should be? I did a search and could not find this information. Pictures would be great or if anyone is close that I could come and see it for myself.

i has seen some awhile back but not couldnt find them this weekend.. i zed my frame 2 1/2 inches this weekend.. cut it right behind the radiator support mounts and then right behind the shock mounts..

When you cut behind the shock mounts how much room did you leave between the mounting hole and your cut?

it was about 2-3 inches behind the shock

Here were i cut mine on my old frame...... Hope that helps, these are the only ones i have.

i cut mine right where the frame swoops down under the firewall. there is a small bend on both side that will act as a guide for u. look up "My SFBD 85" thread. it should have plenty of pics for ya!!! its the same frame so u should be ok...

Thanks for the pictures that helps a lot! When you cut your frame did you measure from the A arm mounting point or from the front of the frame to make sure both cuts are in the same place? ( or doesn't it matter?)

if you do a 2 1/2 z do you need to rise the trans hump or tunnel on the cab.

Also do not weld straight up and down on your frame. make your welds at angles. An old timer told me that they are more prone to break when straight up and down.

VROD- I am su reyou have too. I did a 4 inch Z and raised my trans tunnel 4 inches also. Its not too bad of a task though.

I did mine the same as they are saying, a couple inches behind the shock mount and just behind the core support. The only real problem I ran into was with my radiator. I had a 4 core and the bottom hose doesn't work with the Z. Luckily I had a 2 core out of a 79 and it worked fine. I also cut the tranny tunnel as little as possible and just bought a high hump out of a 4 x 4 blazer and it just bolts right in and looks factory. Oh and I Z/d mine 3".

i have a 60 and i want to z my frame 4", do i cut my frame in the same spots?

Does "Z"ing the frame cause any issue with removing the distributor like the dropmember does?

I moved my motor to the front mounts and I dont have a problem at all. But then you have to have the driveshaft lengthened and move the tranny crossmember up.

umm on my 70 c10 my engine is already mounted on the front mounts...so i should be golden...thanks for the reply...
