front coilovers

Well, good news and bad news. Good new is that i got it all installed and it all fits well. Bad news is that the the springs are nowhere near stiff enough. When I lowered the jack down for the first time the truck was resting solid on the jack, I then put blocks under the tires and found that the coils were in total coil bind. Needless to say I need a much heavier spring so i ordered a set of longer and heavier Eibach springs from summit.

Sorry about that, the shock bodies are QA1 p/n DR3855P, the first springs were 7" long 2.5" I.D. 550 lb/inch QA1s p/n 7-550 and the new springs I ordered are 8" long 2.5" I.D. 800 lb/inch Eibachs p/n 0800.250.0800.

Got the new springs and they were perfect. Ive got the adjuster at about the halfway point so I figure theres enough adjustment to raise or lower the front end about 2 incher either way.

The ride, while definately stiffer than airbags isnt near as stiff as I feared it would be. Ive got the dampening adjustments on the shocks about 1/3 the way up and the ride while firm is in no way rough. Since the soft ride from the airbags was one of things I didnt like about them, all in all Im very pleased.

Now its time for new wheels/tires, I sure hope tax time turns out in my favor.

I took the body off so its gonna be awhile before I have more pics of the truck but with the body off its easier to see the coilover set up so I'll post some pics of that.

As far as the ride and handling goes, I coundnt be happier. Its still no sports car but its definately easier to drive fast than when it had the air bags in the front. I figure once I get front and rear sway bars on it itll actually handle pretty decently. I havent decided yet but I may do somethins similar in the rear.

Sounds like he was talking because of the handling aspect. Lots of body roll type of deal.

Yeah, it really was about handling and I wanted a adjustable static drop. I liked the ride of the airbags but for what Im doing with the truck I wanted something with a little more adjustability. The cool thing about the coilovers is the huge array of spring weights/lengths available and the fact that the shocks are adjustable is pretty cool too.
Sway bars do help alot but theyre really only one part of the puzzle, same with the coilovers. Right now Im working on makeing the frame more torsionally rigid.
SCOTI- the old set up was firestone 2600#? bags on modified(spring pocket cut out and bag plate welded in)stock lower arms. The shocks were from a E-150 ford van with fabbed upper shock mounts to correct shock alignment and change to a upper stud mount shock.

Hey guys, long time no post on this thread. Got the truck back together enough to set the ride height up on the ruck. Heres some pictures with the ride height I chose and some pics of the coilovers installed and loaded.

Looks good! I like the ride height. Any concerns with the LCAs/tie-rods running 'uphill'? Are you running a drop spindle?

Im sure you guys know what yore doing but heres something I learned and would do different if I did it all again. Theres not much room there so run the lower coilover mount as close to the ball joint as possible to be able to run a longer shock and less spring preload. I ended up having to run a 800# spring with alot of preload.

It appears that you dont have much suspension travel... It looks like the bump stops about an half and inch or so from bottoming out. I do realize that you have the truck adjusted very low. BTW very impressed by what you have done... looks great!

Yeah, its hard to tell from the pics but the bumpstops are adjustable(mounted on a 5/8"bolt), havent messed with them yet.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=412403
