my flea market find
I got this set of 68 Ohio plates from a flea market yesterday about 30 miles from me. The man had about every year Ohio plate you could think of and he had multiple sets of each year. This was the worst set out of the 4 sets of 68 plates he had. I got them for $15. He had a set that were near mint for $20 but thats all i had on me because I mainly just went for the ride and didnt intend to buy anything. The next time i go i plan to buy the mint set if he still has them and i'll use them for wall art and use these for my truck.

Re: my flea market find
i recently got a set of 72's for the burb. I need to repaint them though as the front one was a little rusty... I'd give them a 6 or 7 outta 10.
Only problem with 72 tags is they are straight up michigan colors. |

Re: my flea market find
I'm still waiting for delivery of my 71 plates. Hopefully, they will be here in the next couple of days. Then comes the lengthy process of getting them approved for my truck.

Re: my flea market find
Nice plates - I found a set on ebay that were still in the Ohio BMV envelope (matched set) - they had some surface rust on the back and were a bit dirty - but after some simple green and some light work with some steel wool - they look brand new...

Re: my flea market find
Picked up a really nice 68'/69' Red Florida Plate from eBay. $20.00 shipped. It's a perfect match to my 68' Front End and Red Bowtie/69' SWB Stepper Bed, Cab and Frame. I'm waiting for it to come back from Tallahassee so it's legal.

Re: my flea market find
I have a set of 71' that I bought last fall up here in Michigan, I Paid $25 for them and they are still brand new in the envelope the came in. Not a scratch, no rust. They were left overs from 1971.

Re: my flea market find
I KNEW one of the MI guys was gonna jumpon that.
I had considered chainging the color on them... I haven't confirmed it, but I've been told you can do that here on vintage tags, but I figure I'll leave them alone... they kinda look like Cali tags at a glance. Hmmm, maybe I should go with the goldish yellow on black. |

Re: my flea market find
The thing with my plates is from a glance they look just like the plates that are on state vehicles in Ohio

Re: my flea market find
Lucky you!
Here in Cali we can't run anything but new unless it's old enough to be yellow plates or you have the original black or blue registered to the vehicle. I bought a yellow plate w/black letters for my Harley at the swap meet a couple of years ago for about $50. It took a YEAR to get them registered to the bike! Why do you want them? what are you going to use them for?... it was hell. They finally registered them as "year of manufacture" and sent little tabs to put the stickers on. I have to pay about $50 a year more for having "custom" plates and they now supposedly belong to the DMV. If I ever stop using them I'm supposed to turn them in to the DMV.....yeah, right! I'll be right there! Dave

Re: my flea market find
Ohio is pretty easy - I got my plates before I got my truck (shipping took too long) and then went to the title place - got a new title - walked next door to the license bureau and she took a photo copy of my 'year plates' and then gave me a set of 30 day 'antique plates' - she said as long as I had the antique plates in the truck I could run the 'year plates' all the time. I got my antique plates in the mail about 2 weeks later...
She also went on to say that if I found other plates (that I would rather use) - just to bring them in and she would photo copy them and then I could run those instead - longest part of the whole process was waiting in line to get to the counter - Best part was ~$20 I spent on plates that expire in 2050! Wish I could give my 95 Impala SS those plates since it only gets driven on nice days as well - I have to pay for annual tags on that one... |

Re: my flea market find
How can I find out if I can run original plates in Utah on my c-10 70daily driver?

Re: my flea market find
I just put 1970 plates on my GMC I think they were $15 on ebay from western SD and unused. A whopping $10 and I'm registered for life! Beats the $50 I was spending yearly on personalized plates.
Sent in one little form and some pictures, got registration back no questions asked.

I totally agree, that's what's on the longhorn too. Quote:
I wish Ohio would let us run dated tags in place of daily driver tags... it'd save them money, and personally, I'd be willing to pay 5 or 10 bucks more a year for the privelage. Free revenue for the state... you'd think they'd be all over that. |

Re: my flea market find
yeah - I only run the year plates on my Blazer - it stays indoors for bad weather...and doesn't come out in rain, snow, etc.
On my project truck (72 c/20) - I got regular plates - not sure why they are more expensive than car registration though ($20 more expensive for truck - even though I don't have 'truck' plates)... |

Re: my flea market find
yeah i just found out they're allowing us to put year plates on in Indiana so im starting to look for some 72 plates for mine. my question is wether or not it has to be truck plates, b/c all it says on their website is model year. anyways, my mom collects license plates and has some dating all the way back to when my grandpa bought a 49 truck brand new, maybe ill get lucky.

Re: my flea market find
they are "truck"plates, they just don't say it.
They cost more becouse the vehicle weighs more, and hauls more, which does more damage to the road. I pulled the wool over there eyes on the longhorn... the guys said "That's a good lookin old C/20 there". Even though it's not a 20...i knew it was much cheaper to say it was... so i just said "Yup... it's coming along". I think it's like 20, maybe 25 less a year as a 3/4 ton. |
