SLOW fill ups
I was wondering if anyone else has a hard time filling the gas tank. Every time I fill up, I have to only squeeze the trigger 1/2 way or less. Otherwise it shuts off. Om sure its because of venting or the filler neck hole. Any suggestions? It takes forever!!

Mine does the same thing on most pumps. I usually go to the same gas station that doesn't have the nozzles with the ribbed sleeve on the outside of them. I think those are for recovering fumes and they always cause the pump to shut off.

just pull the nozzle out an inch or so...It should make it work better.

doesn't work for me, I've tried it. It is a little faster but not much.

on the 70's trucks (dunno about the 80s trucks), the ribbed nozzle ones wont click into place in the filler hole. and they wont even think about coming on (the nozzle) unless that ribbed part is fully depressed. So you gotta stand there and get a charlie horse in your arm as you hold the nozzle at the right position & angle. Now the other kind, with no ribbed part, just a flat disc, those work awesome. If you have trouble with that kind, your vent and or filler neck main tube are probably collapsed/rotted/etc. The dealer stocks them Its really all about the vent, too. Dont try using regular tubing for this (ask me how I know)... it will make all the difference in the world when you change that stuff out.

Never tried the halfway thing. On some pumps that won't work right, I stick it in the hole (hmmm...) and then turn the handle upside down, so the handle/trigger part is above the nozzle. It pretty much wedges itelf in there and stays until I am done pumping.
One time I was in Montana, filling up a 79 Chevy (LWB-not mine) I hadn't worked out a trick yet, so I was filling it, and it would shut off every three seconds. Attendant came out of the station to see if I was having problems, I guess she saw on her computer how it was filling all screwy, saw I was driving an old Chevy, and said something like "just one of those old Chevies." I smiled and said "yep." |

My experience is that the ones with the black ribbed thing makes it so it doesn't work. I just stay away from those stations. Otherwise, I got to the same place that has just the bent metal pipe that works great. Sometime I have to coax it though.
