looking for a manual master cylinder for disc brakes...

hey all,

converting to disk brakes via drop spindles and over the counter 70's era replacement parts.

i want to run a manual master cyl but all the serching i do comes up with power only...

anybody know what manual cyl will work with discs?
maybe 71- 72?

its going in a '63.

71 or 72 non power front disc master cylinder should work. That's what my brother-in-law used in his 67, I'm sure you can make it work on you 63...

Could you get an aftermarket booster/master and resell the booster on ebay or something? Are master cylinders really power/manual specific? Hmm.

on cars that i know of a manual master has a deeper recess and requires a longer pushrod... (or vica versa)
the bore size may be different... idunno

Yep, thats what I used on my '66. Funny thing is, according to the parts reference manual the master cylinder for power or manual brakes was the same for 1971/1972.

Maybe i misread something but just go with the cylinder that matches the disk brakes of whatever year you decide to go with.

if i use all '77 (for example) wheel parts i cant use a '77 manual master cylinder because (i think) they were all power.... and power masters are different than maNual.

i could possibly use all 71-72 but drop spindles say 73-87....

We sell new master cylinders that can be used for both power and manual. You just use the adaptor on the piston or not. Last time I checked they were 39.99 here at the store. They are copies of the original.

lgdn63, my 77 has factory manual brakes, so I can assure you that manual masters do exist. I think it's the rod from the pedal to the master/booster that changes, not the master itself (at least with this application).

Manual brakes and Armstrong steering leave a lot of room under the hood!

Yep, they are. Bore and stroke are diffent if you have power assistance. If you are driving a power boosted truck and turn the engine off, pump the brakes a few time to reduce the vaccum, this is the feeling you will have any time you will need to stop. Not good!

John(chiefrocka) recommended this to me, its a bolt in, I havent messed with the pedal rod yet, but should provide enough oomph to stop a truck. No personal experience yet, but for the price, you can give it a shot and see what happens!

Like I said ,you change the piston rod length with the adaptor on this mc. not the rod from the pedal
