383 idea is out 350 in.
I have decided to go with the GM Performance parts 350 HO "Base" engine. After College I will try to put in a 383. I added everything up and new Engine, Exhaust, and interior is going to cost around $5000. I will try to get more info up later on all the things I plan on putting in it.

Sounds like a good plan. I've been pondering what engine to put in mine and am leaning towards that 350 also.

Its cheap and puts out some decent HP. After the warrenty goes out I'll probably change the cam and lifters to a roller setup if they are cheaper by then if not then I'll just put a bigger cam in it.

That's my thoughts exactly. I just don't have the money and can't see spending it right now for a 383 buildup. I've actually thought about buying one of these rebuilt short blocks from a local shop ($550) and replacing cam, adding vortec heads and intake, and going from there. However, you never know what you're getting from these guys.

I'm going with the base model so I can put an Edelbrock squarebore carb on it instead of the spreadbore. I'll have to get the rear end changed I don't like 2.73's. Is there anyway to find out what kind of rear end I have?

so what do you guys think of the list? Is there anything I left out or should change? The kick panels I'm not sure about its says in LMC they are for 73-79 but I'm sure I can get some for the same price or cheaper than LMC.

Your going to put FOUR 4" tips on it? Maybe its just a typo, but save your self some money and just put 2. 4 will not look good. Everything else looks good though. Be carefull of s&*t that happens though, like maintanence or crap breaking. Had a good list myself till my trans. went caput. Now I gotta fork over cash for that, but thats okay. Now all thats left is work to fund that 5G budget.

and you dont need 2 dual out mufflers. 2 single outs would be fine. and the 4 exhaust tips would not look good at all to me. |

Ok right now I'm reworking it. I might go with a 2.5" exhaust all the way through or with 3" until it gets through the cats. then go to 2.5" which if I do that I will be using two 2.5" inlet/outlet mufflers and will only have two tips.

I agree you need 2.5" pipe. Also I would call around the dealerships in the area for a price on the engine. They may have a sale going on and not cost in shipping. Also do a search on google for that GM part number and see what comes up. I bet Jim Pace and others can beat Jeg's.
Look here 350HO This is where I bought mine from Jason. He works at the Cadiallac dealership in Florida but sells on the internet. It's one of the lowest prices I've seen. Like I said do a search for prices to see who may have the cheapest around. Same part with warranty but different sellers. Eric- Great idea but you thought about getting a ZZ4 shortblock minus the cam and timing gears? Then you have a great shortblock then add your cam, heads and intake of aftermarket companies and you got a hell of an engine.

Yeah i would go with anything other than jensen. if i were you and was trying to stay cheap and not buy crap i would go with this
Pioneer 3-way 6X9's ($70 at walmart) 6X9 boxes for behind seat ($20 at walmart) go with some nice 3 1/2's in the dash. also if you dont have power windows in you truck you can also put some 6.5's in the door for about ($60 at walmart) get a cheap wimpy 2-channel for the 6x9's or 6.5's if you decide to run all three. but if not then drop the 6X9's go with an MTX 4122 amp and bridge that into a 10" mtx 6000 Woofer and that will run you maybe ($250 local audio store) buy a single truck box for about (50-60) so in the end you at about 400 without the 6.5's but i doubt you will need them. with what you have now you only are $437 anyways thats my two cents

Here's a better engine price - the 71-85 lists a 265 hp, must be rv cam or something. It's in Dallas, maybe you can save shipping by picking it up yourself.

I got my motor from www.enginefactory.com They will build anything you want and give you a 1yr. warranty. I bought the 383/450hp package and never had a problem. Once the power bug bites ya you're gonna want more hp! They also sell short/long blocks with your choice of everything, plus these guys know the combonations that work. Good luck.....my advice-> get what you want now!
