Guys with C or step notches, how are you running your exhaust?
I just installed the 2.5" S/S Magnaflow kit on my 72 and am not happy with the amount of clearance above the rear axle. I am planning on installing a C notch, and am wanting to know how you guys route the exhaust over the rearend? Any pics?

Re: Guys with C or step notches, how are you running your exhaust?
in my opion, the simple solution would be to cut the pipe of at the muffler and run turn downs, if you dont mind the rumble, and noise in the cab

I'm not a fan of the turndowns in front of the rear axle, I had that on my 66 Chevelle, and it would kick up dust all the time.

Re: Guys with C or step notches, how are you running your exhaust?
I run turn downs. Between the 25 gal fuel cell, air bags, sway bar there's not alot of room. They are a bit noisey. I must admit, I haven't spent alot of time looking for a path to the back.

Re: Guys with C or step notches, how are you running your exhaust?
I run mine out the back and exit under the rear bumper. I have air bags, gas tank and a watts link out back. No exhaust clearance issues.

Do you think a "quieter" muffler would help or is the noise just a factor of the pipes being so short? Also, would the location of the muffler make a difference? |

This is problematic for those who are setting their bumpers on the ground.

Re: Guys with C or step notches, how are you running your exhaust?
I don't have any pics now, maybe this weekend. I have a local shop build if for me. I just told them that I needed clearance and they made it happen.

Re: Guys with C or step notches, how are you running your exhaust?
That's what a buddy up mine did, he angled the turndowns and that made a world of difference inside the cab.

Re: Guys with C or step notches, how are you running your exhaust?
wow looks good frizzle, hey did you have yours mandrel bent or did you just use a bender and make the smooth bends?? Because they dont look pinched as they say from the hydrolic benders.
yea that would be the goal if you are bagged is to try and run as far back as possible without getting the way or mashing something if they are before the rearend better to turn them a lil sidways and out, or on long cruises down they highway ears tend to hum for a while Last edited by scotts62; 07-18-2008 at 11:37 PM. |

Re: Guys with C or step notches, how are you running your exhaust?
It's a U-Fit 3" mandrel kit from Flowmaster (purchased through Summit). Nice quality from them as usual, but I did end up buying two more of the S-Bends directly from Flowmaster to make it up/over the trailing arms right behind the TA xmember.
I had side exits in front of the rear tires with 40 series flows, 2.5", and no H pipe before. Now it 3", all the way back, 50 series flows, and I'll be installing an H, so it should give it a completely different sound. I'm expecting it to be deeper, but not quite as loud, with less interior resonance. Can't wait to fire it! |
