Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
http://store.summitracing.com/compar...=KeywordSearch
Well I have it down to two carbs. Is the avenger worth the extra $ I see it has a metering block on the sec and electric choke What else makes it the better choice? I am leaning towards the Avenger but not sure...

Re: Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
You need to list the part numbers...
But I am 99% sure the only difference is the metering block rather than the plate on the 3310. For a street driven vehicle, the 3310 is fine. All the block allows you to do is jet the secondaries to your liking, rather than having to replace the plate. Im not sure if they make differently tuned plates, but I bet they do. The avenger (4150, no?) is just more tune-able, thats all that im aware of.

Re: Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
Money is better spent on the 3310. Then, you can upgrade to the rear metering block (to allow jetting the secondary's). Also, if you don't need a choke, the Proform main body is an awesome addition. IMO, the Avenger series of carbs are more money than they are worth.

Personally I prefer mechanical as there is nothing to break, but electric is really easy to set up. I vote 3310. Or, find an old 4150 on ebay and rebuild it if you want the tune-able secondaries. << Cheapest

Re: Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
choke 4 sure I like manual choke.
Unless the avenger is the cure for all problems I will go with the 3310C most 4150 don't have the choke. And they have mech secondary |

Re: Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
The Street Avenger is going to be closer calibrated to your daily driver and has many tuning features (easy change secondary springs, sight plugs, etc.) that make it a better DD carb. You defnitely want an electric choke for a DD.
The 3310 is too big IMHO, but we've been down that road. |

Re: Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
I've got a Street Avenger, and love it. It was on my truck for a year and a half before the teardown, and after the necessary tuning mine has worked flawlessly. I had to get a little more in depth on the tuning part, due to me ordering the 670 for an almost stock motor, but I did that on purpose to leave room for future upgrades. In retrospect, I should have gotten the 570 and upgraded it when I do the swap. Hindsite.......
You can get a pretty good deal on Ebay on those carbs too. I got mine for $285 shipped to my door. Brand new, in the box, with all the bells and whistles. That's my experience. I have always been partial to the 4150 platform (all I'll ever buy),they're easier to tune for me anyway. Jay

Re: Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
I've got the exact Avenger you are looking at and would love to be able to go back in time and not order it. Obviously, not everyone shares my opinion, but I'll tell you what I've gone through.
The casting job is/was terrible. After getting it installed, I could never get it to idle correctly, it would just die. After troubleshooting the timing, the idle adjustment, everything under the hood, I finally took the carb apart. What I found were numerous burrs that were interfering with the float. I had to use a Dremel to polish up the burrs so that the float would operate as it should. Now I'm experiencing more problems with it. Bottom line, for the money spent, I expected a much higher quality of part. I would look elsewhere and will shortly if I continue to run into problems with the one I have. Ironically, I bought a new Holley, so that I wouldn't have to constantly fidget with the old Q-jet, so now I just constantly fidget with the new Holley. Good luck!!

Re: Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
I debated it for a while before I bought mine. My next new carb will also be an Avenger. Runs awesome. I have a 570 on my built 305. A mild 350 will do great with the 670.

Re: Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
I went with the Hollley 600 manual choke carb. I've never had a problem with it. However, it's on a bored 283 and is a little too much carb. I'd like to go to the 570 for it with roller cam and rockers soon. My truck never needs to be choked. It always starts and idles well.

Re: Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
What is your engine setup. Is it the 383 in the 67 in your sig? If so, does it still have a manual transmission? Is it a daily driver or just a weekend toy? I have a 570 Street Avenger om my mild 350. It runs awesome. I also have an auto tranny. I wouldn't recommend the SA series if you have a manual trans. You would benefit more from a mechanical secondary carb with a manual tranny. I don't know what kind of money you are willing to spend, but the Proform and QFT carbs from Summit are really nice setups. Everything on them is adjustable, they have billet metering blocks and baseplates, and you can get them with or without choke horns for street or race use. What little bit I have learned about Holleys is the more adjustability you have, the better tune you will get. A perfect example is my 570. It doesn't have screw in air bleeds or changeable idle feed restrictors. The carb runs excellent, but it tends to idle a tad rich. If I could change to a slightly larger air bleed or smaller idle feed restrictor, I could lean out the idle.
Also, the electric chokes on the Street Avengers is awesome. I tap the gas once, the engine fires up and idles up nice for a few seconds, then I just tap the throttle once more and it shuts off and runs out perfect. The Street Avenger are well made carbs. Chevyholic, it sounds like you got one made on a Monday or Friday. You are the first person I have heard complain about the SA carbs. I'm sorry you have had a bad experience with yours. Holley has great customer service also. If you call the tech line and ask for the Street Avenger tech expert, he can walk you through just about any problem you may have with your carb.

Re: Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
Thanks Matt, I may have to do that. I'm really frustrated. Two rebuild kits for a carb that isn't a year old is pretty extreme.

Crack the secondaries open a wee bit with the screw on the pass. side rear of the carb. It's facing down towards the intake. Then re-adjust your idle. I had to do that with my 570 on my 305. |

Re: Holley Avenger or 3310 ?
4sure keep the info coming.
I think I want the 670 SA. I have the electric choke wires already there from the edel 1406 And my dash is finished( I took the manual choke cable out too.) Sounds like a problem free carb. -1 bad cast. I would call and send it back. Man all the carbs they sell they should give you one.... Thanks guys |

Also, vacuum secondary carbs can NOT be converted to mechanical seconday and vice-versa. The vacuum secondary main bodies have vacuum ports with a check ball. Quote:
