Chassis to Trailer Wiring?
I'm trying to repair the trailer wiring on my 74. There was a rats nest under the bed that just wasn't acceptable . . ....
I've got the wires from the truck sorted: L turn, R-turn, stop, & parking-lights. I removed all the hazardous splices that had been added through the years & streamlined the trucks wiring. My problem is splicing in the trailer 'plug' wiring correctly. The plug (flat-4) has wires for L-turn, R-turn, stop, & a ground wire. My trailer has wires for: L turn, R-turn, stop, parking-lights, plus a ground. Since the flat-4 plug has no specific wire dedicated for the parking-lights, how do I wire the parking lights from the truck to the flat-4 plug so that everything works correctly?

Normally witht he flat 4, the brake lights are really just the left and right turn illuminated simmultaniously, thats how the wiring normally goed for me. Idk why ur trailer has 5 though...

The wiring supplied w/the hitch was meant for 67-72's, so it's just a plug-in deal there. My 74 doesn't have the same chassis-to-bed wiring plug which is where the parking-light wiring has me confused.
My thought was to wire the park lights to the trailers tail/stop wire. The only lights that would work when the brakes are applied would be the ones w/dual elements right? The only lights that I know that have dual elements are the tail/stop lights on the trailer; everything else I would think has single elements. The more I think about.... the more confusing it is.

N2TRUX already answered your question above. You're confusing one thing - on your truck the brake lights and turn signals are the same thing. So no need for a separate signal path for them.
Therefor your four wires are : Left turn, Right turn, Parking, and ground. On your trailer, you won't be able to use amber turn signals if it has them. You'll have to separate the left and right brake light wires and run them to the left and right turn wires coming from your truck. Then your trailer will have exactly the same lighting as your truck.

I had it wired right but found the wiring had been hacked farther up the line which caused my issues. I looked in my Chiltons book @ all the various wire colors & figured out "what was what" & spliced appropriate colored wire where it should be. Once that was corrected, I crimped & heat-shrunk all the splices & everything works like it should.
I'm going to put a new plug on my trailer & will test the connections befoe the end of the weekend. Thanks to everyone & that link for trailer wiring is pretty handy to have.
