Talking I have aquired the very last body panal I needed

I finally got my grill mount panal. Last body part that I needed. This is a $300 dollar part and I got it for $20. The kind of damage on my old panal I could not fix myself. I mean I could but I don't have my own welder yet. I've been mechanicing for a long time but this is the first project I have ever done any real body work. I like to think that I'm getting fairly good at it.

This is how I sand blast. Slow but very effective. Every body panal on my truck has been done this way inside and out. Now that all inner rust has been taken care of the final body work is ready to be done.

That is a real nice and straight grill panel...good score

That seems like a lot of slow work for stripping....I know....a guy makes do with what he has to get the job done. I'm just spoiled I guess since I have a friend that does abrasive blasting I admire your ambition and motivation....you've got your truck looking real nice and straight.

Thanks alot. I'm very proud of what I have acomplished so far. Mainly cause I have limited everything. Time, money, tools, space, and sometimes motivation because it takes so long. I've been workin on this truck for about 4 yrs now. I have the engine in it and trans I just need one U-joint and I could drive it around the block I I wanted which I sooooo badly want to do. I have a wife and 3 kids so this project has been kind of a build as I can sort of thing. But I have changed jobs recently and now have weekends and an hour or two to toy around with it. So I'm give myself 1 yr to get it done. Although I don't think it's gonna be a winning peice I still want to enter it into next years local car shows.

What we all want to know is how many drills you've gone through?

I once installed a pair of door speakers in a Ford Ranger with a wire cutter (to make the hole) and a self tapping screw (to drill the mounting holes). That was a long time ago, but it worked.

Good score man. You know you can get a cheap angle grinder for like $30. Throw a wire wheel on there and you'll never use the drill for stripping again. I feel you though... making due with what you have is far better than not doing anything at all. Keep it up!

I have gone through four drills so far. I'm sure I'm gonna end up going through a few more before it all over.

I do happen to have an angle grinder. But it's not variable spd and It will burn up the stripper disks I use. I've tried a wire wheel and I just don't like the results. The stripper disks I use do and awsome job of removeing the paint and rust all the way to bare metal without heating up and distorting the metal and also without deep marks in is succh as a wire wheel does. I am thinking about seeing if I can get a buffer that is similar to the angle grinder and se if I can get the disks to work on it.

Re: I have aquired the very last body panal I needed

Someone told me a 63 grill support panal is different from the 64-66. Is this true? I'm pretty sure the one I just got came off of a 63. I compared it to my old one and found no differnce what so ever.

Re: I have aquired the very last body panal I needed

........not sure Original........my guess is no major difference and its certainly nothing that cant be taken care of w/ a few new holes. As long as your drill is still functional!!!!!!!!
