Too Loud?

Hey guys,

I have straight pipes right now. And my neighbors are getting pissed when I start her up in the mornings. I did not care for awhile but now cops are starting to give me the eye. You guys have any suggestions. I still want to sound mean, just not as loud. I was thinking getting some glasspacks. I don't know?

Thanks guys!

Re: Too Loud?

Maybe one of the blowmaster type muffler setups? Kinda quiet until you stomp on it.

Headers about 12 inches of 2 1/2 pipe and a 2 chamber flowmaster! perfecto I used to get the (eye) with that to but it did have mufflers on it

Re: To Loud?

I had longtubes, 12 inch flanges into long cherry bombs and then into turndowns and it was pretty unassuming until you got on it and the smiles began. That was on the 283 and it was great but I can't wait to hear the same setup on my new built 350

Get some decent mufflers or grief will come your way. IMO your neighbors do have a right to some peace and quiet. A sound clip is in my signature: full headers, 2 1/2 inch pipes and Edelbrock 5529 mufflers, which are glasspackish.

Re: To Loud?

just go with some long cherry bombs. the closer to the end of the pipes you mount them the quieter they are. if you want it to have a nice rap to it mount them closer to the motor.

Re: To Loud?

I agree with the neighbors, I lived next door to a guy for two years who used to leave for work at 5:30 every morning on his Harley with no mufflers. Like clockwork, I think he woke everybody up within a 3 block area... imagine what it was like for me who's bedroom windows are 30 feet from his driveway. If your truck sounds like his motorcycle, I'm surprised you have unbroken windows, unkeyed paint, and/or unslashed tires on your truck. I tried to talk to him twice about it and you would have thought it was my fault because I'm not a heavier sleeper. I don't have problems with loud vehicles... as long as I hear them only between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m..

Re: To Loud?

Hehehehe, mayn I think I got the wimpy model of lakepipes cause they are pretty daym quiet until I get on the throttle.....Ill bring the truck by your office next week. As for quieting down your pipes, just get some baffels installed. Check out Culver Muffler Shop right at Washington blvd/Washington pl split. They do really good work and priced cheaper than other local shops.

Re: To Loud?

Think about my neighbors, we started a nostalgia top fuel car with a blown 392 on nitro one saturday afternoon after we had got it put back together. Sherrifs came but the garage was closed and we had no idea what the noise was.

Re: To Loud?

I just recently had installed some 24" Cherry Bombs with Bellflower tips. They sound pretty mellow at idle, but when you stomp on it, they really rap nice!

That's a bada$$ truck you got...have you posted pics of it?

Re: To Loud?

My 60 has a 250 L6 with headers and 15" glaspacks sounds sweeeeeeeeeeeeet loud if you get on it ,rap them or down shift, and yea it sets alarms off, and scares dogs, but I can still pass a cop and not get hasseled.
I would get some glaspacks , or turbo muffllers and add some cut outs as mentioned, shoot I might have a pair in the " shed"

Re: To Loud?

In my opinion, your truck has the look for an "old school" sound... like glasspacks... I had Flowmasters on my truck, and they sounded nice, but then I changed the look of the truck and the sound didn't fit it anymore. So I switched back...I am very pleased with my set of $14 a piece cherry bombs...

Re: To Loud?

You can get some old school Thrush turbos at Advanced Auto fairly cheap.

Plus the sticker looks cool.

Very mature thought there... exactly the kind of sentiment that gets laws passed making this hobby more difficult to keep going.

Yeah, your so right about the look, I have been driven around all day today.. And it has been so nice an chill. So different, going to give this a try for a bit. It is my daily driver so it needs to be a lil subtle.

Thanks!
