What do you mean by "failed"?

Also, excellent reference to Monty Python.

Re: Starter failed... halp, halp im being repressed.

The shims are between the starter and where it mounts.

If the starter has been working all along and now it doesn't it may not be a problem with shims.

It could be the solenoid or starter drive.

Most auto parts places will check the starter for you.

Sounds like a flywheel problem...check the teeth on the flywheel. Check to see that they are not worn down. This happens sometimes when you try to start the truck when it is already running. It could also be that the solenoid on the starter is not engaging with the flywheel.
