Lets talk Shocks

Ok guys I am down to just buying new shock all the way around. I want a good right quality and firm bump control. I do not want my teeth beat out of my head over bumps and pot holes if not avoidable.

I have looked into the toxic shocks and the summit drop shocks, I cannot get a good answer out of anyone at Edelbrock for their IAS shocks.

I just want everyones opinion, as there are a ton of lowered trucks on here.

The truck will be lowered as below:

Front
2.5" spindle
3" coils

Rear
Flip Kit
2" Shackles

Re: Lets talk Shocks

I've got Nitro Drop shocks on my Burb they work really good concitering the truck weighs alot more than a pickup it handles very good. Doesn't rattle my teeth out and thats with a 6-6 drop and low profile tires.

Re: Lets talk Shocks

I got rid of the nitro shocks in the back of the 84 and put on the Bell Tech Street shocks. They are a definite upgrade to the nitros and worth the effort. I run a Rancho RS9000 in the front of my truck to contro the rebound on the front tires and that way I can drive roads with potholes beter.

Re: Lets talk Shocks

Toxic shocks were horrible when I tried them about 4yrs ago. Since then I've ran doestch tech on all my trucks [also had a 79 down 5" in front]and can't say enough good about them.

Re: Lets talk Shocks

The best I can tell is to stay away from the nitro shocks, and the toxic shocks?

Do you guys have any part numbers on the doestch tech or the bell tech shocks?

Re: Lets talk Shocks

My '80 stepper is dropped with spindles, springs and a flip with 1" blocks in the rear.

I destroyed the stock rear shocks in a matter of hours, didn't use a shock relocator. After searching the books at a parts store I came up with this Monroe part number,59017. It's a standard Monroe Gas-Matic that fits Econoline vans. I did have to make some spacers and change the upper bolts. The ride is decent, well, as decent as an empty short bed truck will ride.

For the front I'm going to move the upper shock mount to get another inch or so of travel with the stock sized shocks.

Re: Lets talk Shocks

Everyone I know that used the Edelbrock shocks loved them, based on Swervin Ervin's feedback, I plan to get them for mine when the time comes.

I looked on Edelbrock's website and could not find anything listed for a lowered mid 80s truck, so I called them. The Tech Rep told me that they had not made any for the 73-87 trucks in a lowered stance. That is why I went with the Bell Tech Street Tech shocks. They work real well.

I do have the Edelbrock shocks on my lowered 91 Silvwerado and they are great.

Re: Lets talk Shocks

we had an 04 gibbs reg cab truck at the shop not too long ago. It was lowered 2/4 past what gibbs lowered it.

The previous owner put the edelbrocks on it and it rode awesome.
