Rear Drum Size

Is there any way to find out what size of rear drums my truck has without jacking it up and removing one of the wheels? I'm buying parts for the rear brakes and need to know the drum size since the parts store shows they have two different sizes in their inventory.

Re: Rear Drum Size

unless you happen to have a receipt for prior purchases and have the part number for the brake shoes cause one is a 10" drum one is 11 inch drum if i remember right... i am sure if its a heavy half its the bigger drum

Re: Rear Drum Size

Buy them both, do the job, return the others. I've done it on a Chevy van with 3 options of shoes before.

Re: Rear Drum Size

If you truck says "heavy duty chassis equipment" or "big 10" or "heavy half" on the options sheet, then it will have the bigger brakes.

Re: Rear Drum Size

It's not a Heavy Half or anything like that...so I'm assuming it will have the smaller of the drum sizes?. Here's a link to what comes up for an 83 1/2 ton when they search it at the parts store:

http://www.partsource.ca/parts/automotive-parts.asp

I'm probably going to wind up pulling both rear wheels just to be sure but thought I'd see what you guys think, to maybe save some time and trouble.

Re: Rear Drum Size

RPO list should also tell what brakes you have.
