Got Rebuilt Engine and Transmission IN
I finally installed my rebuilt engine and transmission this weekend. Looks and sounds awesome and the performance is there too, except I need to replace the carb. It sucks.
Question though. I found out why my fuel guage isnt working. The wire from the sending unit isnt hooked up to anything. I looked for the same color and size one from the fuse terminal and cant find one. Does it change color. Also does the 83 oil guage use something for a sender unit. I put a 73 engine in and need to have a oil line run into the cab. Thanks Jerr ------------------ New Project

69Custom,
The '83 trucks have an oil pressure sending unit next to the distributor. Looks like an upside down "fat top". The unit is screwed into the intake manifold. There is one wire connected to it. This wire runs back to the cab. I'm not sure of the wiring schematic for the fule gauage. I do have an original GM manual with diagrams. If could give me more details I could look at my book and try to give some more help. ------------------ Gerardo 1983 Custom Truck TX Plates: "BAD BOW" http://www.geocities.com/abetterchemist/ |

Well, I put in a 73 350 which has a connection on the block itself in the back by the distributor. I have to use a after market gauge right now because of the oil line to go to the gauge.
As for the sending unit I have many wires cut in the engine compartment including the computer. I found the temp guage which was the green wire. I have a blue one, pink, tan, brown. The sending unit wire is brown, but the wire gauge is different from the brown that is coming out of the fire wall where the other wire are cut. Hope this information helps Jerr

On my 85 the tan wire is for the oil pressure sending unit. The pink wire is for the fuel level gauge.
