87 fuel injected trucks
What is the general opinions of the stock injection system of the 87 1/2 ton trucks? Do they require much maintenance? Would one be ok for a daily driver with maybe headers, a chip and not much else? The most I would be carrying would be a small fishing boat on trailer.I've not heard anything about these systems from owners to know the good and bad, if any. Is the 87 the same as the 88 up TBIs? I drove an 88 with only a new chip in it that really hauled butt. Thanks, Boog.

The motors in the '87 are indentical to the 88 model motors. They would be perfect in my opinion as a daily driver. As far as what options are offered, not sure I understand your question.

My 87 4x4 suburban is fuel injected, stock, and I have pulled quite a few things that were heavy. Including my 69 on a full trailer from Chicago to my house, all in stop and go traffic. about a 2 hour trip. It performed great! I don't have to do much maitance. It has 161,00 miles and is my daily driver. The only time it ran bad for me was when it needed a EGR valve.

Hey Capt. My request was for opinions, not options. And thanks for your thoughts on the FIs. I'm leaning that way for mine. Since the 87 & 88s are the same, should be more available used. Thanks, Boog.

Oops, it must have been early before my brain was able to read. I was in a hurry....
You can't go wrong with them in my opinion. But I am bias toward injection. ------------------ Chris Lucas 1973 Chevy C-10 1975 Chevy Silverado Captkaos' Page

I've got no TBI-related complaints for my 91 4x4 crewcab. Its a 7000lb truck with a 350/4gear. I'm surprised I haven't killed it yet. Its a lot of truck for a small engine. Aside from basic consumables, it's needed a distributor and intake manifold (thermostat housing bolt seized)
The nicest part of the injection is the drivability. No more flooded carbs while 4-wheeling, and don't have to wait 10 mins for the bloody thing to warm up. As large and ornery as it is, I get 12mpg in the highway - 3000rpm all the way (ouch!) ------------------ [This message has been edited by u2slow (edited 05-04-2001).]
