I had my outside door handles Powder Coated
Just picked up the front outer door handles for the powder coating shop today after work. Had them powder coated "HAMMER BLACK" which is a textured finish to help hide fingerprints and smudges I think they look great!!!
Just another step forward in my quest of ridding my ride of any and all chrome/polished stainless steel on the outside of it. I really don't care for Chome all that much.

Re: I had my outside door handles Powder Coated
I'll be installing them this next sunday will get before during and after pics to post as well. These are going on the front doors and I'll take the old front ones and have them done up to go on the rear doors as well as the piece on the tailgate Then next spring the bumpers both front & rear.

Re: I had my outside door handles Powder Coated
Got home from work a bit ago and started changing out my D/S front door handle. It got dark before I was able to complete the job but here are a few pics of what I did.
D/S Front door handle before [IMG]IMG]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y194/frozenasstro/MIDNIGHT%20SUN%20STREET%20ROD%20ASSOCIATION%20CAR%20SHOW/Suburban%20Mods/MVC-023S.jpg[/IMG][/IMG] Pulled the door panel off to access the mounting bolts and the linkage so I could disconnect it from the latch inside. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] The verticle rod has to be disconnected from the latch mechanism at the bottom in order to fully remove the handle from the door. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] Here the retainer clip has been removed and the rod removed from the latch mechanism. You can see the retainer clip sitting below the rod here just before it dropped to the bottom of the door. [IMG][/IMG] In oder to remove the handle from the door you have to depress the thumb button while pulling the handle away from the door. This alows the linkage at the top to rotate enough to clear the opening in the door. Here's the door handle removed from the door Here is the roll pin I had to punch out in order to remove the linkage from the handle. Once I did that, it was just a simple matter of installing the button then the linkage parts /roll pin back into the blackened handle. Picked up some brand new door handle gaskets for the install as well. Left side is the odd numbered one. Right side is the even numbered one.

Re: I had my outside door handles Powder Coated
Here's the door handle mounted up on the door. I've still got to reattach the linkage inside the door and put the door back together. But that will have to wait for after sunrise tomorrow. Then I'll do the passengers side. And try to get some better pics of the handles installed as well.
