no gas to the carb in my 70 c-30???
on my c-30 i had a 2bbl that never quite ran right so i rounded up some parts from the shop and came up with my holley intake and a edelbrock 1407 carb (750cfm?) i also put in a hei ignition. i got her all back together and it started hard (had to crank forever). but when i got it running it was sputtering and popping. the problem is after running for about 5 minutes the clear gas filter was almost completely empty and she died. the previous owner ran 3/8 rubber from tank to pump. do you think this could be collapsing and cutting off flow? should i plan on putting in steel lines most of the way to the pump. i checked and have no obstructions in the lines or filter. i had to turn the fuel mitxture screws out like 4 turns, isn't this too much? i took the fuel pump off and it seems to spray out fuel fine. the engine is a stock 350 w/ a man 4spd. does an edelbrock 750 seem a bit big? i have an older q-jet from a 305 would it make more sense to put this on instead? sorry for the long post just looking for a bit of help on this one

Re: no gas to the carb in my 70 c-30???
If you can do stainless steel tubing, do it. It will save you a lot of grief in the long run. Some mechanical fuel pumps look ok but have bad seals. Put the engine under a load while someone observes the pump. If the inside seals are broken it will spray gas out the weep hole. An easier and safer method would be to put a pressure guage on it. (I like the backwoods way myself)
I'm not sure about the 750 carb. I think I would go down a few to a 650 or something. Never hurts to recheck the firing order too.

get rid of the rubber fuel line //could be the in tank filter/fuel strainer attached to the fuel pickup is clogged with 40years of rust varnish sludge and other crap, might be time to have the tank cleaned

I`d go ahead and run new metal line. You say you took the outlet line off the fuel pump and it was gushing?
