muffler question
I'm getting ready to install new muffler and exhaust system to my 61 and was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on turbo mufflers. The guy at the muffler shop can put dual exhaust on for under $300. I am wanting mufflers that will sound good, but not rattle the neighbor's windows.
Thank you for your input, Joe |

Re: muffler question
I have a 65 with headers and straight cherry bombs. Not too loud, but sounds great. Makes car alarms go off in my parking garage at work.

Re: muffler question
I am a Flowmaster guy always have been.I went and had mufflers put on one of my trucks one time paid 425 and on the drive home i thought how bad it sounded so when i got home i crawled under the beast and the guy at the muffler shop screwed me i paid for 10 series flows and he put turbos on instead. When i went back and talked to the owner he said the guy had done that before and pocketed the extra money because turbos are about 150 cheaper then flows. But to the question at hand alot of folks like the turbos i'm just into the loud aggresive rumble of flows...

Re: muffler question
Turbos have a decent sound. They're affordable, and sound perfect for what you are looking for.

Re: muffler question
I have the Thrush welded mufflers and like them real well. They don't rattle the cab like flowmaster 40's. They sound more aggesive than turbo's and you can get them from Jegs for under $30.00

Re: muffler question
I got the summit force chambered mufflers and I have had single chamber flows, two chambered flows, 40 series and for the money I would use the summit or the thrush I put the summit chamber mufflers on my 70 with tailpipes and it runs a whole lot better!!!

Re: muffler question
everyone knows I'm a flowmaster man. The key to 40's is where they are mounted in the system, if you like loud, put them under the cab, if you like tone and sound, push them as far to the back of the truck as possable.

Re: muffler question
got turbo's put on mine 1 each side turned down right before the rear axle. Very happy with them , has a nice rumble when at idle and low speeds-when at cruzing speed you can't even hear them sounds like a factory exhaust (which i like because flows get on my nerves after a while).
