Why an NP203????
Well looks like I am dragging home a new project/beater. It is a 77 stepper with a th350 and np203. What is with this transfer case. 4lowloc4lown4hi4highlock. Why did GM use this instead of a 205 or 208? I don't see the advantage to this transfer case except in plowing snow. What is the differences between low lock and low and 4 high and 4 high loc? I am just unfamiliar with this transfer case. I know it is chain linked which is a weak linc but is there any other problems with these?
Also being full time 4x4 I am going to try and maximize my fuel econ. I know it is a fruitless effort but Was wondering what can be done. Does pulling the front D shaft realy give you any better MPG? I have seen conversion kits but I think for the cost of them I would be better off swapping to an np205 with new drive shafts and front manual lock outs. Can I run manual lock outs with the 203 and gain any MPG? thanks for the info guys. Like I said I have never messed with one of these before and am learning as I go
