Steering stop removal
Looks like lots of the stock lower arms running bags have the steering stops and bump stop bracket removed. What are the potential problems that you will encounter with leaving them on, as well as chopping them off? Any issues with rubbing the tires on anything if there are no stops? I just picked up my parts from the blaster and they are ready to paint. Now is the time to cut the stops off if I need to do so.

Check the bag info to see if it has an internal bumpstop, and as for the steering stops, just don't turn so far! I'd have to see a picture to know what you are talking about, but a less restrictive stop should be able to be added in later. |

I completely removed mine...it rides way better (obviously more travel), and I have no tire rub from lock to lock. Then again, no bags just lowered.

Re: Steering stop removal
I just got done with this back in summer. With stock control arms and re7 slam bags it would rub the bag about 1/2 way up the travel. I jacked up the a-arm to check .......I wanted to use the factory stop to limit the travel. Cut them out!!!! It was also the opinion of 100% of the people on the suspension section, too. Your fender well will now be your new bumpstop!!!!

Re: Steering stop removal
I'll knock them off before I paint today. I think I could make up something to bolt on later if it looks like I need to.

Re: Steering stop removal
Did you get this done? I hope I saved you some work. I put mine all together and then had to take it apart to cut those things off.

Re: Steering stop removal
I should take some pics. I cut the stops off. Painted the front and rear control arms. Rear end is all cleaned up and painted. Just a little more work to the frame and it is ready for paint. Major turning point is about to hit. Time to start reassembly. She will be off the lift and able to roll again. Then the body is ready for primer, the rust repair is done.
I got some new upper ball joints this weekend, need to get some new lowers this week. My front bags might be here next week, its finally comming together. Chopster |
