JBA shorties eating wires
I've had JBA shorties on my truck for about a year now. And, recently, they've been eating the #3 cylinder wire, and the wire acrs to the header. I've been through about 3 sets of wires, and I'm going to be using some boot protectors and some heli-core multiangle MSD wires. I need to know how or what I can use to stop these wires and boots from melting and arcing, since the straight boot is almost right ontop of the header tube.

BillyBob84K5,
Try using some 90 degree wires. Use wire looms too. I've had not used headers before but I think the two options should help. ------------------ Gerardo 1983 Custom Truck TX Plates: "BAD BOW" http://www.geocities.com/abetterchemist/ |

I suggest running them under the headers. It may not look as cool but it will stop the burning wires.

Never had a problem with 90 degree boots and looms on my rig. I would think that routing them under the header would cause the rubber to get brittle quicker from all the heat...I could be wrong, just something I have always suspected.

Nope, not the case. Most shorty headers have the tubes built in a quirky way to where it makes it tough to keep the boots/wires off of them. I had no choice with my Edelbrock TES headers because the A.I.R. tubes were in the way on top. Besides that, heat rises for the most part and with my headers being ceramic coated they run cooler anyway. I bad wanted my wires over the top with some nice wire looms, but now after mine being under, I like it better. It sure is nice not having to remove wires when you need to work on the top.

On my 92 I have Edelbrock 6656 TES's, but without any emission crap like Swervin has to deal with. I found that using the factory looms and wires works the best, 90 degree boots and loomed as stock my wires never get anywhere near the primary tubes. BTW very nice looking engines guys, especially with Swervin cause usually all that emmission stuff looks terrible, but that looks awesome.

I always forget about the emissions you guys deal with, I am actually into the '67 - '72 trucks. What little crap they have, hits the floor as soon as I get them(if it hasn't been done already).
