LS1 motor swap

I have a chance to buy a 2004 vette motor at a good price. The guy wants 1000. and it has 30k on it. He does not have the orig intake but he is going to include a different intake and injectors. Is this a good deal ? Can I run my 700R4 trans or do I have to get a new style trans? Thank for the help.

Re: LS1 motor swap

You will have to get someone to redo the computer for the 700R4 or put the 4l60E or 80E behind it. Was the vette a manual tranny car? If so, then you could run the tranny on your old computer and the engine from it's original computer.

Try Mike Noona at EFI Connections and see what he tells you.

Re: LS1 motor swap

The deal is for the motor only no other parts like harness or computer. I dont think it has any brackets on just the long block. I know the motor is worth the price but are all the other parts that im going to have to buy make it not worth the money

A good thing to apply in buying a late model setup, is to get everything in one package. It really complicates the process, piecing the stuff together.

A Grand for a long block only id pass on that. You can buy a wrecked f body or truck for that and take everything you need.Watch for the drive by wire if its got it you gotta switch pedals in it.

Re: LS1 motor swap

Yeah andrewmp6 is right, a grand for a long block is too much. Like piecesparts said, try to find a complete "take out" with motor, harness, computer, etc. This will save you tons in the long run.

Check the LS forums...

Re: LS1 motor swap

Thanks for all the info guys. I even found a n 8.1 long block for 500.00 but he only has the motor. I will keep on looking for a complete drop out.
