Who is Cutting Where???
Been lurking for years.
Cal58 and mylow53 motivated me to do a truck build so I picked up a swb 54 with a 235 and three on the tree. Down to the frame, planning on 4 linking the rear with a 70 Camaro rear end I had laying around and I also am in the middle starting a Camaro Clip swap. Actually its probably a Malibu or Nova front end since it seems to measure closer to that than an actual Camaro front end. Anyhow... Ive read several threads on clip swap and seen a few pictures even but it seems like there is really no "exactly right here" place to cut. I'd just like to know where most of you who have done the swap are cutting your frames?? I have welding experience and have built a few Hot Rods so it's not like I'm afraid to do what needs to be done. Just want some opinions and pics of what you guys have had success with since I know how easy it is to really screw something like this up. Thanks all and I appreciate the Forum, Ivan |

Re: Who is Cutting Where???
to be lumped in to cal's class is a mistake he has a work of art!!! as you know we need pictures!!! the more the better. no progress is to small to take a picture of. lastly when your wife complains about how much time and money you put in to this don't bring up my name.
Greg ps mustang 2 front will maintain your investment dollars more then a frame graft. i prefer as much stock as i can. provided it still goes fast and is safe.

Re: Who is Cutting Where???
Dads truck has the dodge dakota front end from Industrial chassis inc. it works (rides) very nice and is heavier duty than the mustang. IMO

Re: Who is Cutting Where???
Welcome from So Aridzona!
I like the idea of the Mll, and my new build has a Dakota from Industrial Chassis. These folks have done a lot for the hobby, so think about it before you chop your chassis, and you have RACk & PINION steering. jm.02

I already have the front end and would rather spend the cash on a good nice set of wheels than to put a (what I feel is a under-engineered) car front end on a full size truck/frame. Again, my opinion and it's only that-an opinion. I'm def not going to be in your class at all. I'd be surprised if I put what you have in your frame in my total project. You and Cal motivated me by seeing your work and letting me know what a basic and ugly looking truck can look like with a little "love." So.....getting the thread back on track. Anyone with cutting ideas and/or "general vasectomy" areas??? Just wanna see where you guys end up cutting and making the point of attachment. Thanks again fellas, Ivan |

Re: Who is Cutting Where???
Take a look (measure) the dia. of the camaro spindle and comare it to the Mll spindle.
You will be surprised at how much larger the Mll is. "Them Ford folks build a good tractor"

A decent (even used) MII front end is gonna cost me at a minimum $800 and can go to "oh my gosh" really fast if you like tubular and chrome and big brakes. Aside from Cal58's truck being a well, 58 that's exactll how I'd like my rig to lay out. Just my way of thinkin, sorry. I like the MII and if I were building a turnkey or showstopper then yeah, it's the clip. Thanks for the input guys, Ivan |

Re: Who is Cutting Where???
Ok, I will take a poke at this one. I didn't sub mine or dads truck, but I did sub my 38 coupe. We started in a good level spot in the shop, put it up on stands, using a plumb bob marked out the hub centers frame horns and any other reference points that you feel are necessary. Then look the two frames over good and measuring several times, and when you fill you have all the mesurments where you want them, break out the torch. Look at all the build threads on here you can get some real good ideas from them. There are several ways to sub, some are better than others, so do some research and go for it.
