Bigger Gas Tank??

Right now I have a stock replacement 16gal tank in my 87 1/2 ton. It was replaced before I got the truck. I have to do a new fuel sender and was wondering if anyone sells a larger capacity fuel tank for these trucks? I know I can get a 20gal but 4gal isnt worth a new tank.

Anyone ever see one? I really don't want to do a dual tank setup as I'm fuel injected and have a mechanical intank pump right now.

Re: Bigger Gas Tank??

Longbed ? If you ditch the spare tire a 40 gallon Suburban tank will fit back there and you can use a transfer pump to pump fuel into your main tank.

Re: Bigger Gas Tank??

My Big 10 came with a factory 16.5 gallon saddle tank on the right side of my truck. With a 454, that got me to the local grocery store and back before I needed a fill-up! I contacted Transfer-Flow in Northern California. I purchased from them a 26 gallon tank kit that eliminated the saddle tank and a relocation of the spare tire. The only drawback is it is a slow process to fill the tank. Now I can get from Los Angeles to the Arizona border on that single tank.

Re: Bigger Gas Tank??

I'm thinking about picking up a 40gal suburban tank for an 87 (internal baffling for fuel injection) and a new sender. Only thing I'm worried about is the filler neck. 40 gal will be 2.5 times bigger then what I have and to me would be perfect. The spare sits in my bed right now anyway, I'm missing the hardware to mount it under the bed.

Re: Bigger Gas Tank??

This is a long bed right? A 40G tank won't fit a Short bed.
Here is how I did it on a short bed with a 30gal tank.
