2000 Astro Van Column Shaft splines??

I was at the wrecking yard looking for parts. I found a 2000 Astro van that has the shaft and universals between the steering and rack. It looks right, has anyone use one from a later model? All the threads I searched are using parts from 80's vans. I need a 3/4" 36sp for the steering box and column I am using. Thanks

Re: 2000 Astro Van Column Shaft splines??

OrrieG,
I don't know for sure, but I think the Astro Vans are 3/4 36 spline. I worked my linkage from a full size van, but I got the "how to" from this link:
http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/w...junkyard_parts
I beleive he/she (politically correct) used a Astro Van intermediate shaft. Good luck.

BTW Your project is very cool. hope to see it someday.

i am using a 68 chevy c-10 steering column and it is 3/4 36 spline. it fits the stock column clamp and looks like it was from the factory.

Thanks for the compliment and the link. I am going to get it, for $10 the shaft is worth it and I can't imagine GM changing the shaft spline configuration.

Re: 2000 Astro Van Column Shaft splines??

Got one out of a 2000 astro van and the upper part fits my 82 Eldo column and the bottom fits the 74 truck PS box (3/4 - 36 splines).

Please post pics. I'm doing the same thing. Found a short shaft from a FS van.

Re: 2000 Astro Van Column Shaft splines??

Look at the Lurker Orrie thread, down a few. I posted the steering shaft photos yesterday. Makes for a nice clean install for much less than aftermarket. I got the inspiration from another member that did one similar but needed a third universal to mount to a rack set up.
