aftermarket door quality
How is the quality and fit of the aftermarket doors? I need at least a drivers door and finding a solid original is looking more hopeless every day.

Re: aftermarket door quality
I am in, This is an important question to me.
If you have seen my truck, I may have to square my cab to using the doors as a reference. |

Re: aftermarket door quality
I repaired my originals and if you decide to go that route get the whole door skin not just the lower part like I did. I tried to save money just buying the lower patch panel and it was a lot of fiddling to make it work and come out nice.

Re: aftermarket door quality
I've used goodmark doors and had to cut both window frames out and re-mount/weld them back in and had questionable gaps all around, seen other makes that were worse. For my money, re-skin an original!

Re: aftermarket door quality
I bought a goodmark driver side for my 72 blazer. Fit is o.k., it just isn't as strong as an original. I've got a dent in it I don't think would have happened with an original. Find a solid truck door (or one that needs to be reskinned) and go that route. I wish I had, and I will next time.

Re: aftermarket door quality
-
The '72 GMC I just finished had aftermarket doors and I had to push in on the doors to get them to lock. I pushed on the drivers door just in front of the door handle to lock it and bent the door in. I got it pushed back out without screwing up the paint but I couldn't believe how easy it bent... I will say that I don't know how old the doors were (some aftermarket items have been improved over the last few years) or what brand they were. LockDoc

Re: aftermarket door quality
I'm going back to stock doors on my truck. Very disappointed with their durability. My passenger side door has a dent in it because I shut the door a little too hard and the handle pushed into the door. No joke. I was so pissed off.

Re: aftermarket door quality
Did you seam seal around and weld around the edge of you doors? (where the door skin and frame come together). This seems to help with the sturdiness of the aftermarket doors, but they are still not as good as the OEM...

Re: aftermarket door quality
You mean like this, Rob?
No, I did not add any welds to the door. The handle pushed in at the skinny part of the handle (the part closest to the middle of the door). It pulled back out, but left a noticeable ripple in the door.

Re: aftermarket door quality
That's what I was talking about. We also put a few tack welds all around the door. This helps some, but probably wouldn't have prevented what happened to you. How long ago did you get your doors?

Re: aftermarket door quality
2006. Drove down to Lawerenceville, GA and picked them up straight from Goodmark. I haven't noticed any improvements to the doors I've checked out at the charlotte shows.

Re: aftermarket door quality
I know this is going to be a sh-ty comment; because after the price and hassel involved.
How about re-skinning after market doors? I say this cause it sounds like the core is ok, just thin skinned. |

Re: aftermarket door quality
It seems odd to me that the aftermarket skin would be any thicker than the aftermarket door skin. I doubt it actually is. Aftermarket doors for these trucks are really reasonable, but I'd be afraid of them because other people's experiences with them.
