Question tilt column tear down?

I am working on a tilt column for my 85. I have pulled the top and bottom bearings out. The bottom bearing was real crusty. I'd like to get the shift tube out the bottom so I can get the pieces off the out side of the column and clean and paint as need. In the diagram it looks like the shift tube is two pieces can anyone enlighten me? Thanks!

PM me your email address and I'll send you a pdf file of an exploded view of the tilt column along with the part numbers
