Where to buy 47-54?

Well, I have finally decided that I am going to do my first build with a 47-54, then a 55-69, then a 60-66, then a 67=-72, etc. Well, I cant seem to find any good places to find 47-54's for under $2k. My local CL has 2, but they aren't worth it. Basically I'd like top know the best places(sites, areas, etc)to find a complete 47-54 truck. All help greatly appreciated.

I know where I would look if I wanted one, In dads buddys back yard. He has a really nice 54 he priced to dad for 1500, Were just not that into them. When we were looking for grandpa a 57 we drove all over place lookin for it. Someone would tell you old so-so had one, and we would go find it. There is a lot of JUNK out there, finding a good one is hard. Took use 1 year to find grandpa's about 1/2 that long to find mine, and dad's just kind of found us. lol.. check the swap meets, look in the auto trader, CL (that's where I found my 55 belair) and ASK around, ever car guy you see. There should be alot of 1/2 finshed trucks for sell right now, with times as they are.

If you dont mind road tripping it Texas seems to be flooded with 47-54 Advance Design trucks. Between my dad and I we alone have about 10. We have that many not because we love them but because we keep finding them dirt cheap. Almost everyday I look on Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio craigslist. And everyday there is always a bunch of 47-54 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks complete in the $500-$1,000 range and some nicer ones around $1500. I almost bought 5 a month ago for $2000 for all of them and one was running and driving with absolutely no rust or dents.

In the last 5 years I have had 4 given to me, two of which were 5 window trucks and one a hydramatic truck, got one for $50 turned around and sold it for $400, gotten 3 for $300, and turned down one for $200 and countless numbers of them for $500. Also bought a 50 burb for $200 (although rough), and another 50 burb and a 54 burb for $300 each. All of these trucks were/are complete and easily restorable. The most we ever paid for one was $1500 and it was for a running driving truck that had been in a garage since the 70s. Now don't get me wrong these aren't everyday deals and prices if they were I would buy all I could and put them on ebay where they seem to go for much more; but they are legitimate prices I have seen and bought nice 47-54 trucks at in the fairly recent past.

Also not to rub it in but one of my buddies just bought 7 of them for $500 and they are all in pretty good shape. Also I am thinking of selling my 54 truck if you want one that is already about 3/4 done. It has a 283 with a two speed powerglide both completely rebuilt. I have thousands in reciepts for it. Asking $4,800.

It looks like it's time to take some "Sunday drives". You have to get out and look to find them usually. Take enough cash along to seal the deal if you find one you want as a lot of guys don't think much of "be backs".
